That's nice, but when are you going to remove the stutter?

Saw the developer blog last night. I suppose that's all very nice, but I think it's a bit premature. Adding in a ton of new stuff, without fixing one of the two things that distinguish this game from every other game like it, doesn't particularly excite me.

My boats still stutter with passengers in MP. They didn't when the game came out, but now, with the various flying fish, etc., they do. It's a developer mess that needs fixing.

Oh, the two things that separate this game from others like it? Sailing and not being able to make a fishing pole. That's about it.

First, the stutters were NOT THERE when the game was released. Near as I can tell, when the fishing was revamped, the stutters came along for the ride. There's a lot more moving around now than there ever was. You don't see it in SP, but it does cause some strange issues in MP. Flying fish, hovering fish, etc.

Second: it has nothing to do with the individual players internet connections. There's been a ton of commentary on this subject, it's been acknowledged by the developers, but there has been no remedy. In any event, when my group stopped playing, there were no boat issues other than the mysterious (10 points damage at regular intervals). When we returned for Mistlands, the random 10 pt damage was far more rare, but the stutter had been added.

Third, and this is the kicker: when the players get up and jump stupidly on the boat while in motion, THERE IS NO STUTTER. It only starts up again when they sit down. Interesting, right? Almost as though there were some issues with data related to attachment or inventory, huh? And if there was a connection issue, they'd end up in the water.

In any event, given the volume of complaints regarding this over the last year, I think it should be prioritized over reskins of shirts and pants.... just my opinion, of course. I will try having the other players wait until I am seated, but you know MP... everyone gets impatient and everyone's a critic about sailing skills.

if you have the means you can try to test it, do a lan party MP session or play with each friend one at a time in turn, see if one of them is the problem. it sounds like networking to me.

To solve this issue, or at least mitigate it, the person who will be piloting the boat should be the FIRST person in the boat.

Ahhh...no.

To the OP, I run into studders, like a 1/4 second freeze....everywhere in the game, maybe it's just noticeable when sailing....?

The multiplayer stutters are a product of the peer 2 peer system, they may be able to optimize the game and resolve the issue, but optimization on that level comes at the end of development unless a bug was identified to cause the issue.

The most common reason for stuttering in multiplayer when you dont solo or duo is someone has a really bad connection and or computer.
