Is it at all worth waiting till game is completed before committing to a first full playthrough?

I know its playable and got a ton of content, but I didn't want to have to do it twice or more to get the full experience. However, it seems like it might be another year or more until endgame and content is flushed out if I'm not mistaken.

Done in a year? That's a good one. These updates are delivered notoriously slow, so if I were you, I'd prepare myself to wait 5 years at the least.

To get the full experience, you'll probs make multiple characters on many different seed world. For example I got my main guy on a save all on his own, he's completed all content, and has a rad base that comes under heavy attack. Now I have a farmer/chill builder character and she comes to his world to kill bosses and nab gear without unlocking those on her seed, which means her farm wont come under huge attacks.
I have another seed for the merchant and one more just for resources that I move between.

It's worth it just muck about with farming and taming and learn what its all about. My pig farmer can make very powerful foods/beers but it's a full time job for her haha.

It may take longer than a year. I wouldn't expect them to be done for another two years, maybe more.

There is plenty of flushed out content and well worth the price but indeed, I would expect at some point they will need people to reset worlds. So far they have been able to avoid it but you can't really count on that.

Also they expect to raise the price when done.

If you think it is the kind of game you just want to "beat" once and be done with it then I would wait. Personally I have lots of hours and lots of characters and worlds I have played through. I feel it is a game I can come back to at any time and just start a new character and get the full updated experience.

I like this idea of playing the game. Interesting...

I own it and have dabbled, but I bought it at release, so I held off getting immersed fully and committing because updates and content were coming weekly, tapering a little over time. Based on what you're saying enjoying it now while I have extra spare time won't be wasted as by the time its fully completed I may not get back given games will be a couple years more advanced, and or just speeding to the new content won't be a waste.

Thanks for the info, skal, I'm off to start.

You can't play through the whole game yet, so it doesn't really matter how far you go now.

I haven't seen any of the bosses or enemies beyond the first three basic types you encounter around your starting point. I can at least develop a character, explore the different regions and get a good feel for the game, then maybe I choose to stop or to enlist others to play with to make it better. Or other games win out temptation wise and I move on. I had forgotten the characters and worlds are saved separately, which makes you less locked into a single run.
