frightened

i can't help feeling that tamable creatures get frightened easier since H&H, or stay frightened longer...

one of mine died during a raid on my base.
so i captured a new one it does NOT want to just chilllll ooooout.
I spend ALL the time repairing the walls, which seems to frighten it??
or does sprinting cause despite being other side of a wall it can't see me?
it feels like they walk close enough to the wall that their head pops through and they "see" me and it frightens them...

has it gotten worse since H&H or was it always a bit excessive?

You could just double or triple the walls, that way your not needing to repair them, repairing them is likely to get you noticed by the beasties you are trying to tame

Oh sorry I misunderstood, so these are wolves your trying to tame, not already tamed. My suggestion would be to either digg a moat around walls, which sounds like you'll have to repair while doing so or just build a staircase leading above them so you can sneak up the stairs to throw them food

I've resorted to going through a portal and returning for them to chill out.
it was just never ending frightened, and i had to get close to repair, can't sneak while hammer equipped.

it was a small enclosure of the tall wood with pointy bits on the top.
my wolves were getting spooked by somehow seeing me through that.
or... hearing me?
i was sometimes able to not freak them out while sneaking, other times that didn't matter either.
no enemies nearby, just me.

but, my main point was... once they're frighted, they do NOT SEEM to chill out anywhere before they're able to destroy their enclosure.
and, i feel i recall they would chill out much quicker before H&H update.

Last night I left my character standing on the roof of a temporary structure I built to tame a couple of wolves. I'm sure I spent over 3 game days there, running around repairing walls, killing a couple hundred skeletons from multiple skeleton events, just to realize (I assume) that the meat that I dropped is in a crack that they can't get to, so it's all been for naught so far!

I dropped in some more meat and saw the yellow hearts, so, off to another few days of fun!

I was hoping to make this quick and easy by not digging a bunch of holes or making a large structure, but I guess it's penny wise, dollar stupid in this case.

FWIW, last time I used one of the circular buildings, which worked quite well, since it's underground, but it was also surrounded by drake, which, apparently like to one-shot trained wolves, or whole packs of trained wolves if they're close together!

Edit: Brought up the game and almost immediately got the "wolf has been tamed" message. Yes! Now to get them to my base...

Standing torches count as fire and will frighten tames.

Without seeing your set up it's hard to say but I know I had, and may still be having, a hard time covering the spawn area around my lox. I was finding enemies and lots of small gaps in the workbench ranges. It just takes one bit of uncovered spawn area to spawn an enemy to walk around and disturb your tames.

so boars will not be able to rip through the wooden fence easily, even a 2 star.

wolves will rip through wood very easily, they have been taking lessons from beavers, your best bet is to try and trap them in a stone structure, leave render distance and sneak, sneak till you have a crosshair that is a flat line then walk back, WALK back. when you start to get close sneak. as for lox, a Pit is best but a super thick stone structure would work too. the key is just getting far away from them so they reset their state to normal which usually means getting afar away and getting them to no be rendered anymore. they will still be there.

2 star night time wolves are really the only tricky one since those will despawn after daybreak if the player leaves.

troll hide armor set helps.
