Yeah, it’s a weird design decision. No troll spawns outside, no troll spawns inside, and sometimes there’s not even any treasure.

Some seeds literally just generate empty caves and it sucks. Immersive, maybe, but disappointing.

It's my headcanon that they were eliminated/looted by Ulf, Astrid, Harald, Frida, Bjarni, or one of the other Vikings we see mentioned on the Runestones.

I know at some point in the dev cycle I've seen troll pairs, one outside the cave guarding the entrance and one inside. Definitely stuck in my mind because I associated it with a mated pair, where the outside one was the male protecting a maternity nest for the female.

We've seen it twice on our current server (started less that two weeks ago). It's still the same; there's a chance for one to spawn outside, a different chance for one to spawn inside, the inside one will not respawn, and the outside can be a spawn point.

I think its different with infested mines since i remember clearing one and then returning to see if i forgot something to see a bunch off seekers and no loot.

Once you clear an instance (graves, caves, chambers, etc), they stay clear and don't respawn anything. So you're safe to mark it off as done.

As far as I am aware, they are permanently empty; just as Burial Chambers do not respawn Skeletons, Troll Caves do not respawn Trolls.
