I would like to know too. I love my spear, but not being able to hit stuff below or over sucks. Even worse for when being in combat in a crypt and not being to hit those damn spawners, thus having to switch weapons mid combat.

The updated/improved animations are visual only, no gameplay changes. Stuff like a new upper body animation for Atgeirs or a new jumping animation.

its weird to pick the spear as something with aiming problems. the spear is the one melee weapon where you can just throw it point blank up or down a hill to overcome the third person fighting system limitations.

I don't think anyone picked it. But it is kinda disappointing that you cannot hit the mobs in the water from the boat with it.
