Now I really want a normal save system (like Skyrim does it)

That's all. I got killed by the Yagluth fire because I forgot to drink my Fire Resistance Mead while being attacked by nearby Tar Growths. I restored a backup (and had to close the game because of an ANR), got killed by a nearby Lox, then tried to restore the previous backup (and crashed again).
I deleted my world and character because it's probably messed up after this.

EDIT: My solution right now would've been to just not upload it to the Steam Cloud and use a manual backup like I've described.

This is not that game.
Savescumming IS a part of playing however I like. Also, I have eaten the food and the Fire Resist Mead. I forgot to do so the second time because I got caught up with the Tar Growths.

Being how you play and being what the mechanism is for are separate things.

Edit: clearing incidental spawns before summoning a boss is a good idea. But if you'd rather get distracted and die 🤷🏻‍♂️.

Did the game designers intend it as this, or did you see it as this? Because I don't think people who just want to build and showcase buildings see it as this.

It is quite literally the games description. Here, I'll quote it for you:
A brutal exploration and survival game for 1-10 players, set in a procedurally-generated purgatory inspired by viking culture. Battle, build, and conquer your way to a saga worthy of Odin’s patronage!

I mean, there is a way to do it in single player, but it's kind of an exploit. Before you fight the boss, log out and log back in, if you die just hard close the game using alt-f4, restart the game and you should be where you logged out.

At this point I don't care if it's an exploit, and I play single player exclusively. I've deleted characters and worlds thrice because I couldn't be bothered when I died!

Or just play the game and learn from mistakes.

Yup. What is the point in restoring the backup. You can just walk over and pick up your stuff. The only thing you lose is some skill points. And if you are gonna go so far as to reload every time you die you might as well just use devcommands to set them back up.

Wait, are you implying local saves are broken on purpose because "reloading a save is an exploit"? Phew. Wow.

you can choose to heavily exploit the local files. Its a choice, they also exist to save you from disasters and so you can resume where you left off and so on.
As a basic single example: you can undo death by marking your death spot on the map and then exiting, delete the current character and load the backup. You appear with no skill loss and all your stuff as before, and on top of that, your corpse has a copy of your stuff, which at the very least is free food and ammo, but you also get whatever you picked up along the way. I know this because I have done it; there are a few ways to die that I don't accept (including a mob trapping me from moving and yet being unhittable because terrain, which I have mostly learned to avoid now) and others that I do (losing a legit combat or forgetting to eat or basic stupidity). Its my personal choice when to abuse this, but its still not exactly legit.

casulrim. yeah no. comparison doesnt work. quicksave and quickload automatically make any game easy. this game is supposed to be a "brutal survival experience" not some game where there is no penalty for dying at all.

like you died to a boss? ok now get your tomestone and try again. its always possible to get the tomestone. aside the worldedge death maybe? and even if not you can make the gear again aswell. its not like the boss destroyed all your bases while you where dead or anything.
always have backup gear. i learned that the hard way. now i dont make that mistake anymore.

Yeah, even if I didn't use it frequently, recently I was messing with backups to help some friends and I could not understand properly what is going on when you disable cloud on steam or cloud save in game. I just want to do it mannualy and load the save and character after I placed them in folder, but I don't understand the madness about having to manually switch cloud save to local and the need of restoring a backup of a save I just put in folder. Maybe I'm just overthinking.

dont listen to people who dont want a save file , they dont have to use one .......give those who want to, a way to back up the game

I wouldn't mind user controlled files but you have a way to back up the game. Just back up the whole folder or the key files or whatever you want like any other data. I am hands-on so typically I run a command line compressor (7zip, specifically) in a batch file over the folder using the task scheduler. But any sort of backup utility will do, dump it to a cloud or usb stick or your other disk drive, whatever works for you.
