Black Wood Base Camp

I have managed to errect a little encampment on the border of the black woods biome, close to the sea. The problem I am being presented with is that I get swarmed by greydwarfs constantly. I should mention that there is a burial chamber just over the hill nearby that I have cleared out. I also destroyed one greydwarf nest further inside the black woods, and there does not seem to be another one. Yet swarms keep coming no matter the time of day.

How do I keep them away?

It is odd. I honestly just don't build in the Black Forest, later biomes are actually "safer" because they don't have the random greydwarf spawn problem. I'd actually recommend campfires over workbenches, make sure the outer "ring" of fires stay lit, that way even if something does spawn and wander over it will be deterred by the fire instead of just deciding to attack your workbenches.

there is also a torch that uses the eyes.
look at them as free stuff. They spawn nonstop and drop eyes, wood, and rocks, 3 things that are fairly useful now. I haven't had to cut a tree in 6 months.
keeping them out is the usual... loft terrain or dig a hole.

I usually use a combo of moat and an earthen wall on the inside edge. Since the dwarfs throw rocks that can do slight but annoying damage to your player, crops, tamed boars, etc. the earthen wall is designed to not give them access to most targets. I also build a little slaughter tower or two where I stand above the earthen wall and shoot arrows at the gaggle of dwarfs aggroing along the moat edge.

As I haven't killed The Elder I haven't had the Earth Is Shaking troll attack yet. Apparently the club swinging troll's area of effect (AOE) can project some number of meters from where they stand so buildings too close to the perimeter can be damaged. Not sure what that AOE number is though.

is there a spawner nearby?
looks like a purple glowing stack of wood - maybe you check the forest area around
and try to take that thing out

Building a few workbenches around your base should also keep them from spawning.

Thank you for your input. It seems they keep on coming no matter what. But only since the last update (Hearth and Home). Before that dwarfs were a lot more civil about me settling inside their premises. I'll be constructing a landing bay for a ship to scour the surrounding areas for dwarf nests. Wish me luck.

I wouldn't look at it as a H&H change based on prior experience. I have very rarely found spots in the Black Forest where I can build and NOT be swarmed the whole time, going back to months ago. Occasionally you find just the right area that doesn't trigger spawning. I don't believe it was changed much, if at all, with the update.

The strategy has always been to spread out campfires and workbenches ALL around, creating a large buffer where nothing can spawn. This might overlap their spawn points and reduce the spawns.

if u got the mats build earth wall, if not dig moat and farm them at will with bow.... as everyone else said lol

i re-created the Black gate of mordor with earth walls and stone walls in the gap lol.

had to add a moat to stop the constant troll attacks

building a moat wont stop them spawning but will stop them attacking your base.
you could also lay some fires down around your perimeter which will ward them away.

Side note, I know people gripe about these little anklebiters but the eyes are pretty useful overall - you'll need ten for a portal (so 20 for a completed link) and one of the higher stamina foods uses 3 along with a freeze gland. Mid game I honestly couldn't find enough of them
