How's the game for solo play?

I've seen some gameplay and the game interests me, but I prefer playing alone and I don't know if the game is exclusively balanced around playing with other people. Opinions?

I initially bought Valheim to check it out for playing multiplayer with family...

I couldn't wait for the requisite birthdays to happen and have already logged over 400 hours solo, but looking forward to starting over with a group soon!

So I think solo works out just fine! As someone else said maybe more "grindy" -- for me it just meant putting more time into preparation, having fun the whole time. I think of "grind" as when I'm doing something in a game that's tedious. I haven't found anything about Valheim tedious -- though I even have fun sailing... okay, sailing back to my corpse on the other side of the world while ill-equipped is not exactly fun -- but it's nerve-wracking and emotional, not grindy. :)

it is not balanced for solo play . the Giants and other things that constantly attack your base/hold . if you play legit without cheating taking on two giants everytime with iron gear is not fun .

probably really damn slow. But the gameplay stays pretty fresh so that shouldn't be a problem.

It can be played solo but it's more fun with friends. Both because it's just fun to play with friends and you can also delegate tasks to get more done at once.

I knew pretty quick that I was going to love this game: a vast, varied open world to hunt and be hunted in, a world that is procedurally generated promising endless replay-ability. What's not to love?

The scenery is almost as good as the artist-created scenery of scripted worlds. One does run across the occasional tree growing out of an unsplit rock. I was out hunting and heard a greydwarf brute's polite greeting coming from somewhere around a big rock. When I could not find it, I split the rock with my pickax. Yup.

That sort of thing doesn't bother me. For the most part the pointilist scenery is to die for, and I have, many times.

The point being that you will probably know in plenty of time whether or not Valheim is for you.

I play solo, I find it fun. Killed the bosses of Meadows, Black Forest, and Mountain with some challenge but nothing insurmountable. I found bonemass (swamp) harder but got it in 3 tries. Had to max my armour and weapons. Now on to the Plains boss... need some totem to get to it ;)

It is very well balanced for solo play. Been through multiple times, mostly solo.

No boss fights require splitting aggro or anything like that... everything is easily soloable.

It's fine sp, but a little more grindy since your just one person. Awesome game!

The only thing I suggest whether you try/buy the game is whether your GPU is fully Direct X 11 compatible or not. Some players see black unrendered grounds because their GPU isn't compatible with DX11.

Just remember the game is far from optimized, and they're just on milestone 2 of many on their loose-road map. So a few bugs. Also, GPU temps can get high. However, the game is pretty decent. It's not for everyone. So make sure if roughly 90 minutes in, you feel it's not your cup of tea, that you refund it. Otherwise, if you're patient, keep going at it and wait it out to see how it turns out.
