You can climb on a boat overloaded no problem. The position is a bit tricky, you need to be lined up and not too close to be under it.

Just FYI if you are almost out of stamina you can just log out and back in to get full stamina back. I wouldn't use it normally but this kind of thing is just a cheap death due to awkward mechanics. Considering the skill loss penalty I'd rather do that than eat the loss due to a cheap death.

I wouldn’t recommend taking a raft out into the ocean.

One trick for trapped in the ocean is if you are online and quit and reconnect you start again with a full stamina bar. Its a time consuming way to swim back to shore quitting and rejoining, but it works in a pinch. I used a raft once..never again. The items for a karve are not hard to get and it has a well defined ladder you can use and is much faster than a raft.

The whole being able to use the ladder while swimming in my experience is lacklustre at best, you have to be in the EXACT right position or it won't bring up the prompt. I do hope they extend the range of which it can be used.

I recommend avoiding the raft all together personally, especially for living islands and long voyages as if a serpent attacks you in a raft, you're done 100%. Where if you were in a Karve or later the Longboat. You have a chance of killing them before they destroy your boat.

You must get off before it drowned. If you keep on farming all the barnacles you will drown with the island. It allows you to take under 30 then splash poof gloo gloo

It can be tricky to use the ladder on any boat. Thw target area isn't as big as one might think. Also, you are bobbing in the water and the raft is bobbing in the water. Keep calm. Thrashing around uses up stamina and hastens drowning.

Another possibility: Rafts are small; did you friend get on first and then stay by the ladder? Did he move to the mast or tiller to make room for you? I have only played solo; I can't give you a definitive answer. I do know that, in those abandoned stone towers, a skeleton can stop at the top of a ladder and keep you from reaching his level.

Were you out of stamina when trying to hit E to get back onto the boat ? Like, actively gulping water ? I wonder if it didn't let you hit E due to no stamina meaning you have to climb aboard before running out or Rose pushes you off the door and watches with a hint of a smirk, knowing full well that 2 people could have... oh wait, sorry.

When mining the leviathans, always keep some stamina available and try to have the vessel as close as possible, preferably with the ladder positioned in a manner that allows you to get to it quickly if you fail to just jump directly into the craft. Also, they do give you warnings, as you experienced, when they start moving around, ect. When I first saw them, I avoided them thinking it was just a small island, too. GLHF!
