Newbie's issues with Skeletons

Im totaly new in survival games. So far it looks like begginers friendly game, just skeletons are pain.

Im just a few hours in game, but i keep dying by hands of few skeletons walking around my hut. One of these can kill me in just two hits. Problem is i have just few basic tools, no chance to kill skeletons with this fast enough and close myself inside a hut is not a solution.

Should i just run away and start build somewhere else? These bastards keep going again and again which is not a fun to be killed everytime i upgrade my house.

Dolmen. They don't look like that anymore - now the stone at the base sits on top, so it looks like a small stone hut almost. But they can spawn Skellies in Meadows.

I've seen those in blackforest; I don't recall seeing them in meadows. And I never see live skeletons there, only the bone piles. I only recall live skeletons outside during the day at burial chambers and stone ruins, and pretty much everywhere in the swamp (and of course, the "skeleton surprises" where you get swarmed). I've only seen bone piles at those little stone formations and at entrances to troll caves. Hmmmm... well maybe after ~300 hours and seeing all the finished biomes, there are still things I haven't seen!

Thanks for answers, skeletons are no more problem. It's just about correct tool and timing only.

Another newbie problem here.
How this game defines house with roof?
After few hours of bulding and demolishing im still at phase bed in da house, but sorry, you can't yet sleep cause no roof?

Is it necesery to use just things named as part of roof?

Yeah, the angled thatched-roof looking pieces (and upgrades you get later) are all that count as far as I have seen. In particular, you can't use floors as roofs. Gotta put a roof over the bed, and maybe a few walls. Certain game functions require an object be sufficiently "covered"; that includes using crafting stations too. And you need a fire nearby to sleep. There are rules... I had to stumble through all this stuff when I started out too. But it is part of the fun :)

Alongside M.Red's suggestion of using a club (blunt weapons do great against skeletons), I'd also suggest getting used to using a club alongside a shield. It takes practice, but getting used to timing your blocks right now will pay dividends later down the road.

You could also make a bow and get used to using that weapon as well. The bow is really useful for certain monster types later on (don't want to spoil things for you with naming them), so getting used to it and getting your weapon skill up now will help.

1h+shield and bow are my go-to choices personally, though you can get along just fine with practice and weapon skill in time. Happy hunting and good luck!

I’d go the other way, chicken out and find a better place to build a base that is less hazardous. Are you in meadows?

Thanks, i'll try this. In worst case i can still start again on safer place.

Another option is to lure other creatures over to deal with them for you. Nothing much gets on well with skeletons, and they're actually pretty fragile - they just hit hard.

Also they don't like being on fire.

There is only so much you can do with a wood shield verse the attacks, some are pretty stinging even with the blocking.

i actually learned the trick in reply #1 on my own about 2 hours ago and have successfully bullied my way past two evil bone piles in this burial chamber and their spawns, in one room. the skeleton archer is a lot more of a problem in such confined spaces, even at closer range you'd be lucky to pull off two hits before the archer attacks again. without the shield it can easily take out half your health if you ate three items just before. it's unfortunate i was so far from home where i found this chamber because my flint axe was done for and it would take an age to get back to repair

I'm gonna have to build a raft at this point to cut down the travel time, it's taking 20 minutes getting across and another death means i'll be wasting 40 minutes on walking and another 20 on returning.

i hope the raft can cut that time down to a few minutes each way instead. but that'll have to wait another time.

On the plus side, once you've cleared one chamber you should have the resources to begin a fast travel network.

Chances are you have built your base near a spawn, either a small stone grave called a Dolmen which usually has a bone pile you can loot and these can be in the Meadows - or possibly close enough to a Black Forest with a Burial Chambers or a ruined stone tower near enough the border and your base...or even worse, a swamp - either way, you are close enough that they can hear you from their hangout and will constantly come to check on you until you kill them and/or either remove their spawner/clear the dungeon, or build your base right on top of it (so that your workbench prevents them from respawning).

You will have to get used to fighting though, and also terrain manipulation and things like that, to keep yourself and your base protected - you'll know why, especially as you start to clear bosses.

mr.reds suggestion of getting a club and baiting out the skeletons strike by stepping backwards is the most reasonable suggestion here since the club is cheap and very effective compared to the bow and you dont lose health unlike when blocking with a early game shield. facing skeletons can also not be avoided since op will meet them in the dungeons to get the required cores or very likely while mining ores in the blackforest

Seems like one should not have to deal with skeletons in meadows during the day, away from borders with other biomes. Makes me also wonder where his hut is.
