Maybe the Draugr civilisation mined and minted it all back in the day.

Probably buried underneath to the ages past. Perhaps thats why you really only find it where nobody would had a chance to use it.

There is a whole economy there behind the scenes we know nothing about. The trader is actually there for our enemies not us. He gives us a few items to pretend to be on our side but he is making bank off the bad guys. The dome that protects him is fake widow dressing to fool us.

Don't forget meadows in abandoned buildings with crates, you can find gold coins in there as well. I've picked up a hundred or so that way from such abandoned buildings.

Would actually make for an interesting update to the Plains biome.

Black Forest == Burial Chambers & Troll Caves
Swamp == Sunken Crypts
Mountains == getting Mountain Caves soon
Plains == flat, rocky sadness

I assume Mistlands will also have a sort of dungeon when it releases, or shortly after; along with the other biomes.

So something like "Abandoned Mines" would be neat! Would also give us access to much more gold coinage, or gold ore, assuming it could be used for things. Might also be a good time to toss in the update to the Trader as well. ;)
