This is exactly what you want. I use this as well. Fair warning though, it uses your pickaxes durability as if you've mined each chunk. Though you can edit the config file to use less durability if needed.

There was a mod I know of that made it so one strike of your pickaxe destroyed the whole node (and ores of course came to the surface). I can't remember what it was called... But I guess at that point you might as well just use "devcommands" and "spawn xxxxOre 500" or something, hah.

Other than that one, I can't really think of others at the moment, and I guess they'd be out of date as well.
