Yagluth
Is it just me, or is this boss not really designed well?
I try to Melee him and as far as I can tell with a Fire Protection Potion you just block his Fire Breath and Meteors. The issue is that as soon as you get close he will use his Nova and while he not just spam it, every 3rd action he does you have to get away for him doing that Nova. And then you can't get back in because of the Fire it leaves behind. So you stand around for one full Spell before you can even get back and then you have barely time to get a couple hits in because he does his Nova soon.
On the other hand you can just use a Bow and shoot him with Ice Arrows... making him die slowly of laughter.
It seems that the best way to kill him is really to influence the Geometry in some way. Either by digging a hole and Harpoon pull him in, so he stops moving which is helpful if you want to use a Bow. Or you build a Geometry wall which you can kite him around.
Or how do you all kill him?

I'll second the silver sword. It also helps to box him in the alter area using earthen walls between the pillars. Leave some gaps to run in to melee him and run out when he starts the meteor attack.

A small heard, 3-5, of tamed lox are actually quite good at hurting and possibly killing yagluth. Maybe that's one of the reasons the queen's in a dungeon, enough tamed animals can destroy bosses

Max padded armor, maxed frostner/silver sword. Medium healing/stamina potions, and fire mead. Thats all you really need unless you want cheese.

Yagluth is tough. He resists pierce (what arrows do) and a few other things. If you want to fight him ranged, frost arrows are your best option. Fighting him up close is really annoying because of his nova (blue area attack)

frostner, fire resist mead, and timing of dodge roll when he raises his right hand. Just run and hide when he raises his left for the meteors, pot/refood and regen some stamina, he will come around to you.

Fire resist, dodge the palm slam but you can stand in the blue cloud afterwards and unload some combos. Run away from meteor. Stay close and he won't do the laser breath, but it can be blocked with the blackmetal shield or avoided with some sprint.

You need resist pots for sure, use some arrows not a lot, melee is going to be a great friend and learn what his movements are to indicate attacks, and kite do lots of kiting, the kill took me 30 minutes because I was doing it as carefully as I could, not to mention I had issues with oil enemies, and the goblins when doing it so just be careful and take your time dont rush the fight.. Also dont just make resist pots, make sure you have a lot of HP pots, and Stamina as well incase something goes south and you need to heal up or move quickly.

Even with frost arrows it will take an extremely long time as he regenerates. Arrows are just not worth it.
The meteors are the biggest problem. You have to stay mobile and hide behind the pillars. Use silver sword or frostner for the spirit damage.
Or, breed a bunch of 2* wolves. Then bonemass melee the rest if there is anything left. (Lox can't pile on as well as wolves do apparently. I did it that way and they got him down to a third before they all died.)

Yup, exactly what i did. But you donβt need stone for this. Wood will be good too (see my screenshot i posted before) Set up a stone stair going around up the lowest pillar and then a ramp leading up to the closest spire thing. From their you can use some iron scaffolding and stone to make a little lox drop where you can lead 2 lox to cage up with a bunch of food and any baby lox will pop off down below to grow your might army against Yaggy.
That is what I did and against 1 Yagluth it was super easy. 2nd one probably kill off my army and then later on the double pair fights got rather quite tense even with the fall out shelters I made down below.
edit: To clarify the fight was easy while the building took awhile lol.
edit 2: I regret not taking before and after screenshots of the air base and ensuing fight that reduced everything to a ruin.
@Ryzylint yes, they did buff Yagluth with one of updates last year. I remember i have beaten him using only frost arrows in my first playthrough. Now there is no way you could beat him using only arrows. He regenerates too fast.

When I kite Yagluth to death out of boredom I use Needle arrows. The overall dps outshines the frost by a lot when I used my fully upgraded Fang bow.
Otherwise everything Ryz said, IMO, he is a poet in these forums.

OK , so maybe I got lucky the one time i soloed him, maybe things have changed since patches. But I legit stood right in front of his skull face and swung Frostner until he died. I popped fire mead and bonemass buff before spawning. I went in morning and ate best foods I could make. Popped stam or health if either got too low.
The bonemass special was still up when he died. He didn't move, I didn't dodge any spells or melee.
The second time I did it with a friend and 20-40 wolves. I don't think he lasted more than a minute.

Maybe they DID change it later, but when I beat him, it was pretty much like they described above.
I actually used _arrows_ for most of my fight. I honest can't remember which type, but I remembered I experimented a few times till a found one arrow type that DID pretty well. I had about 5-6 stacks of arrows. I hit him a few times with a silver sword for amusement value. Because I tried to stay at range, he chased me more, and the fight was pretty mobile. But it wasn't end of the world hard to beat him.

Prepare with mentioned stuff above here is a method to fighting melee but strongly suggest you keep fighting and figure it out yourself when yagltuh does Nova with right hand, run to left side of his body positioned between his left hand and spine-tail just outside of melee distance and the nova should miss you, as he turns to face you his left hand will be hittable without getting struck by his nova aoe. You should be able to get a 3 hit combo on his hand and then on his face usually and maybe more of he decides to sit there for a bit. When he raises his right hand and says party look up to the sky to watch the meteors while running away from where meteors are heading. If you stay close he should just keep going between those two attacks. Sometime he will do a ray usually if out of melee range, just strafe either direction. Once you get used to the timing of how long his ray goes you should be able to run strafe close to him and start hitting him just before he catches up to you and finishes raying. This is a safer method of melee fighting. if your fully prepping as mentioned with Stam, health, fire pots and good food it should be a breeze. fenris armour for speed and extra fire resistance is an option you might consider aswell, especially if you forget to reapply fire resistance mead during battle.

The fenris set alone will not protect you from Yagluth's fire damage. I was a crispy toast VERY quickly. You definitely need the fire protection potion.

Your skill levels are too low. At this point, you should have 50+ in run, jump and your main weapons skills. I mean, it's not that important but will help a lot. Leveling your skills at this point is a no-go because it will take a lot of time.
Ryzilynt said it all. Taming and breading an army of wolves or loxes will help a lot too. An by an army i mean a lot. 100+ units.
I did a fun experiment on my friends server. I tamed 2 star wolves and loxes and made breeders on top of Yagluths fingers. And keept them breeding for like 10 ingame days...I lost the count but there must have been 100+ loxes and 200+ wolves. It was laggy AF, but they ate Yagluth for a breakfast :)

Skills were in my twenties back then as well. And yes, melee is the way, arrows don't do much against Yagluth. Use Frostner, be quick on your feet, always have a fire resist potion in you and hammer that bastard.
Tip: I used the "Fingers" around his altar as temporary protection against his meteorite shower.
Also, always have a few medium health potions on you, just in case. Fight can take two in-game days and one night.
I died two times, but could finish him. I think best armor for me was padded with the fenris tunic for negating the speed penalty. This allowed me to escape his nova and other shenanigans.
Oh, and have everything at least upgraded to level 3.
One more thing: Food is very important (as throughout the game). Get the best you can.
In regards to your world saves... the new patch should aleviate that a lot. I also would HIGHLY recommend to turn OFF Steam Cloud save. Move your character and world to local on the main menu BEFORE you do that, though!
Once Steam Cloud is turned off, the game should run (fairly) smoothly.

Thanks for the input. Keep it coming.
Everything is upgraded as much as possible. I tend to be more of an explorer/builder/gatherer than look for a fight - hence the skill levels.
Unfortunately, the battlefield has been flattened, so cover is difficult to find. I tend to run, which is my highest skill level...lol

Everything said above, plus I usually have a bed nearby with back up equipment plus food.
This way you can get back to the fight before Yagluth regenerates his health, as he does if your gone for awhile trying to get back.
On the other hand, playing single player, I try and tame 1 and 2 star wolves, atleast 20 and bring some lox'es with me as well. Basically have a place close by Yagluth and just run over with all your critters and they will get his health down enough so you can finish the job. Takes longer but it works.

Ha Ha, maybe life in this character yet. I decided to go for him and then start a new character, so went to set up my portal near him. Full of really good food, scouted the area, no Fulings or squitos and started chopping some wood (should have taken it with me doh!) only to be attacked by 4 growths. Slowed before I noticed and died quickly lol. First death in the last 100 hours! On my way back for my gear and to make it fun I'm going naked but full of stamina. Wish me luck :)
Rhapsody makes a good point. I have maxed everything apart from fenris and also I don't have a crystal axe. A good 50 or so hours to do that so I'll leave Yagluth until everything is done. Thanks for the suggestions.

Two great suggestions. No boss has killed me yet because I fully prepare. Several games day of prep for bonemass :) I think I'll go with a combination of both suggestions. Much appreciated and I'll let you know how it goes. The only thing putting me off is that I will feel I've completed the game once done and not have a reason to keep playing and I love the game too much for it to end just yet.

I've only had a single world and single character since I started playing shortly after release. I don't remember how many hours I had clocked in, probably 100-150 or something on my own world (600 days), and I felt kinda same as you about dealing with Yagluth. But I still got a ton of stuff to make after him, like completely upgrade some black metal items, and I have not yet upgraded fenris armor either since the frost caves cannot be found close to center of the world.
And then there's a whole lot of building projects I've undertaken inside my "small" lodge, like reinforce and replace the roofing with tar shingles, construct actual portal tower and treasury, fortify inner and outer defenses with iron cages... It's not necessary of course, but I like being prepared for whatever nasty monsters Mistlands will unleash at us.

It shouldn't take any special tricks or construction. Just make some fire resistance wine, medium healing potions, and top tier health food like lox pie and serpent stew (food that gives 4hp healing). Wield a silver sword and the best tower shield you can make. You could also bring some poison resistance mead if you're worried about a growth spawning nearby.

I would suggest not to make a pit in the traditional sense with yagluth, rather dig a double ditch to keep interlopers out and using the dirt from the double ditch to make a wall around the spawn point tall enough to black yagluth's line of sight.
I will explain my logic now: Once you get tired of losing your life, going through your nearby sheltered portal and picking your gear back up while your doing it by yourself..... You will have a change of heart and when you do, you might realize by blocking its line of sight and using an aoe weapon like a giant hammer...... yeah been there. I killed Yag using my big hammer and a soil wall in order to prevent him from attacking.
On the plus side i love Yag's battle music!
Don't forget your nearby portal to jump through when you die!

Yeah.. there were indeed a few tar pits in the vicinity. I thought they were far enough, but apparently not.I'm fighting him right now (just died midfight), but contrary to the previous time I fought him some months ago, there's also growths everwhere.
Is this a thing now, or am I just unlucky?
They're a new addition to the game but not specifically tied to Yagluth. They probably just spawn nearby.
I should've built a few workbenches around the area.
It's not easy to solo Yagluth, when you also have to deal with growths and deathsquitos... and then it turns night and two-star fulings come to join the party.
The fight took me 4 days. My preparation was not good, I ran out of fire resistance potions and lost acces to my portal so I had to improvise a lot.
But as frustrating as it was at first, when I came close to finishing him I was filled with a sense of pride and accomplishment. Really! :-)

Congrats OP.
A year ago we built up the ground around him so he couldn't get out of his circle. We just peppered him with arrows over a period of time until he finally died.
A year later I'm going it completely solo and I've put a few hundred hours back into the game. I've dedicated some time into breeding 2-star wolves. I sailed a few over to where Yagluth is and now I'm breeding more. I'll probably get up to about 30 wolves and try to tame a few Lox also. Then I'll let them have at him. I'll finish him off with some melee if they aren't able to get it done. It's more enjoyable taking the slow pace this time around though and just having some fun with the animals that I didn't the first time through.

Yag is weak to Spirit and Blunt so Frosner is a good choice.
I saw a video where someone took him on with 100 wolves and 100 lox. It was epic. The first time they took him down in about five seconds. They just swarmed over him.
They kept summoning him over and over. After about four of five times, the army was getting thin and he was lasting a few minutes. Eventually it became a regular Yagluth slugfest.

Wasn't aware of silver weakness. I just pillar hug and melee him between abilities. Beauty of that fight is that you can just kite around pillars if you need to regen HP, its pretty forgiving.

I just made a base above his altar with a lox drop spawner so for the first fight I had like 20+ lox wandering around stomping him to death.
Sadly both my lox and my base got wiped out over the next 5 Yagluth spawns lol. Then it was using Silver Sword and Claws.
edit: 2 Yagluth's at a time was pretty scary. More so then 2 Modor's.

Oh yea it can be useful to bring a stonecutter to make some fallout shelters to run into against his meteor attack. Just make sure the roof has multiple layers of stone.

Hmm... and take 2 hours? Frost Arrows do like 40 damage to him... he has 10,000 HP. Have fun. Bows
Did none of the things you mentioned. Just bow. shot arrows. He died.
I read that they patched that out, didn't try Silver Arrows though. I think silver arrows make more damage to him
That is what I did. Frosner is a beast against Yagluth. Bows, not so much unless you don't mind shooting a billion of them.
He is resistant to Fire(0.5x), Very resistant to Pierce, Wet(0.25x) and Immune to Poison, Stagger (0x).
Which makes the Porcupine not that great for him, same with the Blackmetal atgeir or Blackmetal knife. The only thing left to do would be to grab a Blackmetal sword or the Frostner.
And yeah shooting down 10,000 with Frost Arrows 40 damage a pop... it's not a "billion times" but to slow for my taste. I guess you could retreat and come back to him, he heals slowly but yeah.
I figured when he calls down his Meteors and you stand really close to him, his head gets hit by the Meteors and you take no damage. But jumping onto him? That is what I will try next time I kill him. Stand on his face with any silver weapon and go ham. Takes a minute or so, never really hurts me. Using bonemass + the full flight of potions.
No mods~
You can do that to Lox to, lol... they can't hit you unless they do their stomp.
Hmm... Yeah I should try out Wolves.I can say this, my next play through I am taking a herd of lox or a pack of wolves, just for fun.
There's a vid of a guy who tested yag versus a set of wolves and lox. Lox group most attempts was decimated while the wolf one shreds yag in seconds.
Also the pacifist runs tend to use wolves on most bosses except bonemass and again takes them down in seconds. Bonemass poison aoe wrecks wolves too fast.

By yag's level, make sure its 2 starred wolves by the way.

He is also much MUCH easier in a group, as you can actually take turns drawing aggro, giving more opportunities to hit him without getting popped

Kill him how you want. My most laborious attempt was using a sliver knife, took 2 fire potions to take him down

Was that the underground and floor tile clipping method?

Don't know what that is, I was completing a run using no portals, no farming no static base, I was unable to make cauldron lvl 4 food due to no farming rule. Finished run by day 160
I had padded armour, drake helm and cape. My food was serpent meat, serpent stew and eyescream. I used bonemass which was a mistake imo, I think ekthyr would have been better as most of fight was running back and forth, dodging meteors and using a pillar for cover.

Can't harpoon him to drag into a pit any more...arrows don't get it done before the bow breaks and adds build up. Seems the devs want you to tank him. Silver works well on him just like all skellies.

I've built a wall around the whole thing, and got loxes in, and tamed them.
Currently at about 7 or 8.
When the space permits no more to be made, I look forward to seeing how much damage they do before they die. I'm under no illusion they will kill him, but it should make it a lot quicker.
Plus, be fun to watch.
