Mistlands Suck For a Simple Reason
A part of me still defends the design in my own mind for the artistic side of it, but practically speaking, this biome is going to kill the fun for a lot of players. It's a simple reason... I think most players have no problem with a biome where you can't see 30 ft from your position. I think most players can handle the extremely difficult terrain. But you put those two conditions together and the game has become a virtual black hole for the players time.
15 cores needed (at least as far as I know now) to get all the new crafting equipment up? OK that's cool, but you can't help wonder how many mines I've walked by. I literally found the second mine I explored by falling to my death from above its entrance.
The frustration level with this biome for me is equaling and greater than the fun I'm deriving from playing it. Although gotten a real love for gjall hunting and making those bile bombs. Man, they are hard to locate!

Fun is subjective. What is fun for some isn't that way for others. Its pointless to argue about it. I've seen enough videos of others playing to know that I'm not going to enjoy it. One of the main reasons is the mist. Not being able to see enemies at a distance is deadly. Especially in a game when you lose everything you have on you. on death. The 90's called, they want their corpse runs back... :) I've quite enjoyed the game up to this point. Even with the roaming death bugs. Once you know how to deal with them, they are much less deadly. But that takes being able to see them. This game is veering too much towards the Dark Souls approach to things. I have neither the time, nor the patience for such games. I'm hoping Ash Lands is better. But I wish all those who enjoy mist lands all the best.

there is 2 reasons for this :
1.youre playing on an old seed. these tend to have poor generation for mistlands sadly. this also affects the mines.
2. there was more cores and you simply didnt find them as you didnt check every corner of the mine.
i cleared about 30 mines by now. i NEVER had zero cores. never. so the chance of this beeing even possible is stupid low if even.
It literally says in the Wiki 0+ cores can be found which means 0 is an option.. and there was 3 of us playing.. trust me we didn't miss anything and it was a new game new world. But hey man YOU'RE right like always no wayyyy I experienced what I did.
i wouldnt take the wiki for granted. now of course rng can be rng. but 2 mines in a row with 0 cores like i said the chances of this beeing the case is VERY VERY LOW if at all. that would have then been some of the worst luck you could have gotten pretty much.
and yeah such cases can occur. but they definitly arent the standard thats for certain.

The only way I will play Mistlands again is with the mod that removes the mist.. it's dumb.. the biome is literally gorgeous.. the mist ruins everything about it.

you only need 5 cores to access everything by just destroyed and rebuilding and switching between the 3 devices that need the 5 cores currently. and you can find atleast 2 cores in each mine. most mines have more cores. my first mine had 6 in it. once a secret room right at the entrance contain FOUR cores and 2 chests. was barely guarded aswell.
This was not the case for me and my friends.. our first 2 mines had 0 cores.. then the third one had 1.. finally the 4th one had 7 in it.. So.. RNG can be an issue.. depending.

I have found a mine with zero cores and one with eleven! in the same day. RNG is pretty crazy on those things. Needs to be a minimum, or at least on the first couple of mines you enter.you only need 5 cores to access everything by just destroyed and rebuilding and switching between the 3 devices that need the 5 cores currently. and you can find atleast 2 cores in each mine. most mines have more cores. my first mine had 6 in it. once a secret room right at the entrance contain FOUR cores and 2 chests. was barely guarded aswell.

I'm sorry but what you always fail to figure out and totally disregard in all of your extensive, expansive posts on the Mistland is that folks DO NOT ENJOY IT. IT IS NO FUN. For them. Maybe accepting that the fun factor for some has been gutted in ML. Obviously your mileage varies on this. But patronizing others by carefulllly explaining over and over again how they are WrOnG is really disrespectful. you only need 5 cores to access everything by just destroyed and rebuilding and switching between the 3 devices that need the 5 cores currently. and you can find atleast 2 cores in each mine. most mines have more cores. my first mine had 6 in it. once a secret room right at the entrance contain FOUR cores and 2 chests. was barely guarded aswell.
plus most mines arent even covered my mist i noticed. the ones with these large stairs often have a light near them. makeing them easy to spot from distance.
getting accross the terrian is a bit tricky at first but once you get the cape youll see why this biome is designed this way. and the cape only needs 25 refinded eitr to make. you only need ONE collector and 1 dvergr post plunder OR 1 giant skull to get to that point. and the 5 cores. thats really it. the rest of the materials are all easy to come by.
compared to the silly easy plains first time this is rather difficult. its more like first time into swamp difficulty. but it falls off alot more than swamp does quicker with the new gear. but its nowhere near as impossible as some people claim. its just NEW. and youre inexperienced with it for now. once you get experienced with it (this doesnt mean getting all the new gear) enough youll realize its pretty well done and fully in line with other biomes aside the one aspect below.
the only real negative is them withilding the upgrades for the gear for no good reason. and before someone claims "hurrr durr same as all other biomes before" no. that simply is a false claim. go check your facts.

no. what is just utterly silly is trying to use FUN like its an actual argument for someones case. its not. it never is. why? because that is just them saying I DONT LIKE IT in the end of the day.
since fun is subjective by nature argueing like its something you can use as an argument for your case is pretty much the epitome of selfishness and disrespect in regards to all others.
if your argument boils down to "THIS ISNT FUN" but dont actually say in detail what your problem is IT SHOULD BE IGNORED by default.
which the devs thankfully are doing for now. most of the changes for mistlands so far where people explaining issues in detail or pointing oversights out and also suggested solutions. some of which got taken. others got taken and slightly adjusted etc. but they fully ignored people just saying "this isnt fun" or "remove this" as neither is actual feedback. its just players beeing selfish.
fun isnt a shared opinion of people. its 1 single persons idea of what fun is. instead try to understand what the devs where trying to do with mistlands and try to understand these ideas. and then provide feedback on this stuff or how you would improve it instead off : I DONT LIKE THE MIST REMOVE IT. thats not feedback. thats makeing stupid demands that will never happen.

I have an old world seed and even then I'm not sure if I've ever felt like not having found a single core in a dungeon. Probably cleared about ten for 20 cores now. It's basically not any different from burial chambers and surtling cores, though I think burial chambers are guaranteed to have a room for cores since shortly after launch. Not sure if that's the case for mines, but I think it could be.
The identification of infested mines is also more or less exactly same as burial chambers. On my world I still keep running into chamber entrances which are half-buried or obstructed by trees. Skeleton signalling helps, and I'd compare that to the wisp lights and the overall more pronounced exterior structures of mines.
The terrain and limited visibility is an obstacle, but I've lately come to think that it's offset by density of resources in addition to telegraphed enemies (obviously). Compared to plains, you can walk quite a distance until you end up on a plains-unique resource that is not cloudberry or deathsquito. And even in plains, you can't always see the squitos behind birches or in heavy mist. Many players tend to be taken by surprise by growths too, apparently.
Mistlands is very densely populated by giant remains, dvergr, organic harvestables and so on which are all quite valuable or useful for variety of purposes. The reward makes up for the danger, but it can take a while to get to that point where it feels fun, and there's nothing exceptional about that.

I had two burial chambers in my current world with zero cores. I was surprised. In another burial chamber though I found 19 surtling cores which surprised me even more so yea it can definitly happen that there are no cores at all but it can also happen that you find lots of cores. It's basically not any different from burial chambers and surtling cores, though I think burial chambers are guaranteed to have a room for cores since shortly after launch.

You only need 5 cores to start making upgrades, and the upgrades (IMO) are a game changer, but getting those 5 cores can be very frustrating and takes way too long. Stick with it a bit longer and you wont be falling to your death anymore.

If you wish to build or take in the scenery, there exists completely mist-free valleys and shores for that purpose. You can also use wisp torches now that they are no longer the primary target for enemies.
