RIP to all the lost ores as people (myself included lol) accidentally toss their ores into water instead of into ship storage.

I didn't really need the change to "be able" to drop items straight from a chest. And switching the transfer stack button A to X and now having A drop items that phase through the boat is annoying. I KNOW that it's changed, now, but habit has now lost me 2 stacks of ores to the depths lol.

Edit: 3 stacks...

It's a controller thing. It used to be that, while in just inventory, RT+A was to drop that stack/item. But with a container open RT+A was used to swap an item/stack between chest and inventory. You had to back out of a container then drop items if you wanted to throw something on the ground.

Now RT+A is ALWAYS to drop stuff on the ground. Whether you're in your inventory or a container. And LT+X is to swap stacks between inventory and containers. So when I'm full up on ores and overencumbering to my boat to put stuff in storage my instinct is to use the old RT+A to transfer stacks into storage but now it just tosses the items out of your inventory, falls through the ship, and onto the bottom of the ocean.

So far I've been able to actually recover the items because it hasn't been too deep, though two of those were barely reachable. I just need to get used to the change, which I know I'll be able to do. Fortunately most of the time I'm on solid ground dealing with chests lol.

Thank you for this post.
After the most recent update my gamepad controls for all RT and LT functions were inexplicably "swapped" and I couldn't figure out how to fix it, which was confusing enough. But I was also dropping item stacks left and right and didn't know why.
Searching "controls changed" led me to your post, so now at least my cargo will be safe.

Oddly enough, for some reason I experience the RT and LT functions switching places thing every so often. I can't fix it in-game or through Steam, so I just make myself get used to it, but then a few days or weeks later, I open the game and they're swapped again. I wonder if it's update-related, or if it's just a bug on my end

If not and this is a mouse and keyboard hotkey issue, I control click the stack to transfer things myself. Then here is no way that, for instance, an older mouse glitches up and "releases" the held down mouse button when click dragging an item stack. I've found that worn out mice often do that and it makes archery a real pain for a min until I get a new one.

Anyway, it might be worth it to try that method and learn something completely new so that you don't default to the old hotkey by mistake.
