Fishing - I don't get it
Does anyone have a decent link to a NEW guide on fishing? I just seem to stumble on old ones.
What I can't figure out for the life of me is....what's the point? Why the added complexity?
Is there some end goal for better ingredients I'm missing, or is it simply fish? End result being you have to vary the bait in order to get fish in different biomes?

@M'Hael True I missed "Fish n' bread" recipe. In deed its the best stamina food, but the "Mushroom omelette" is just 5 stamina and 2 Health points worse and very easy to farm. Normaly you only want to run one stamina food, so that should be the better option. Not sure if its worth it to grind out all that different fish, just for so little stats improvment. And even if you did, you need to keep fishing anglerfish, which is very timeconsuming.
Yeah, Fish n Bread is also 30 minute duration compared to the 25 minutes of the others...but that doesn't really even matter now. I honestly was using salad the most, by far the least amount of time and resources intensive once you get a farm set up in mistlands to grow jotun puffs.

Caught about a dozen or so fish, but not with a fishing rod. They just seem to jump into the boat or raft.

I get it now, I just thought I was missing something, because as someone said - you might as well just fish in meadows.
The only exception being angler fish and bread, but maybe it's right in that it's simply for more content in the future. That's the only thing that would make sense to me.
Not just extra trophies, because that could be time much better spent!

More tedious bloat work they released in lieu of content. Gotta nerf that comfort level before we go on holiday.

There's this other game that recently started featuring fishing, and at one place it says this about the activity: "You can fish your whole life without understanding it was never the fish you were truly after."
But aside from subjective or personal objectives, there's at least one food recipe which requires specific type of fish (fish 'n' bread, anglerfish). I wouldn't be surprised if they were going to add more fish foods in future, especially if the Ocean biome is going to be in the focus on an update.

As it is now, i dont see any point in catching other fish than the starter fish in the meadows. You can still get higher qualities of fish, and therefore more raw fish with one catch and the bait is cheap af. No need to get trophies at all.
Why didn't they add better food, that you can craft with better fish? Or you can brew some fancy meads with the new fish. I really don't get it.

Not sure you need a guide.
- the vendor sells rod and bait. This bait is for meadows level fish.
- meadows level fish give something that makes BF level fish bait, so you can catch trollfish.
and so on. Each higher up fish group has 1 that makes better bait.
- you can get the better bait by trolling the shore for landed fish, bypassing the lower tiers for now if you are a veteran player.
- fish now have tiers, visually making them bigger and fatter, and giving more raw fish when chopped up. The higher the tier, the more stamina drain.
- raw fish now comes from the cooking pot. This appears to be an aggravation created because you need the same fish for bait -- the pot lets you make the choice between bait or food.
- as before, fish traps on the shore are super effective. Moreso than ever, and with the annoying bait mechanic (even in the right zone with the right bait, you get 'the fish is ignoring your bait' messages from strays). I recommend just making a fish trap, which is raise/lower/level the shore where it is often high wave/stormy and put a lip on the edge (raised higher, above the water when calm). Then just raid it when you need fish.
there are some new recipes that use some new fish, not just the bait. But generally speaking, its just fish and the extra complexity adds nothing. It would be FINE if higher tier bait caught anything that level or lower. Because that is not the case, its frustrating. There are enough good foods out there that fishing remains optional.

The best stamina food currently in the game is locked behind catching the anglerfish in the mistlands and everything is just bloat to get to that point. You'll never try and catch another fish after you get to were you can catch the anglerfish

Seems pointless currently. Maybe the Devs have something in mind for the future? On the plus side since the new update I have more fish than ever and haven't fished once. They just keep jumping onto the boat deck, docks and the shore.

Well for one thing, you get more raw fish, if you get big enough catch (high rank/quality fish).

Yea, I get that, but.....end result is still fish?
I don't understand the added complexity, unless it's just a deliberate time drain for a relaxing side...ah, pastime.

If I remember right, the next biome to get stuff was the ocean. I guess they though well might as well add it, and I don't mind the extra fish.
