What would you like to see in Valheim this year?

I've been thinking a lot about what is the content that developers are working in for this game. I've seen a few games fall due to the lack of mechanics and gameplay overhaul. I know valheim will get a lot more and it is an early access in its first year, but what worries me is that they go this direction: occasional season updates with new toys, you farm, get the new toys, and drop the game. New biome? people explore the biome, kill the boss, and drop it until the next update.

I think you get the point, I hope they focus on the game's core mechanics, like the aspect of farming ores, user interface, world generation (it lacks a lot of variety), etc. Not just new building parts, a few new foods now and then.

I'd take for example Astroneer, many veterans in that game accept that the content being released are just seasonal new toys, because the devs have been lazy enough to not improve the core gameplay mechanics, what they add to the game is a pointless new toy, and until you get it, its the same old game again.

I started to worry about this when they said the game will end at some point, and yeah that is true, but you can make your game be replayable through a fun and varied world and gameplay.

I know this is just an EA game, I just want to say what I consider the best thing that can happen to the game in the near future.

What are your thoughts?

My thoughts are that you'll be disappointed if you believe the core gameplay will be changed because people grow tired of the game when they've done it all. You're misguided in your beliefs that this has anything to do with potential laziness of the devs.

To me it seems IGS may have increased their ambition for the game, which could lead to more content, variety and longevity, but I don't believe the core gameplay will change.

For the discussions sake, it would be interesting if you could specify what aspects of - farming ore, user interface, world generation you'd like to see changes for. I wouldn't mind them improving any aspects of the game, but we might differ on what we see as improvements.

I'm not saying the core gameplay should change, but there is definetely room for improvement, I mean, the core gameplay itself could stay the same, what I really want to say is there is room for improvement to make it more fun, like mining, for example, is not one of the best parts of the game and there is no deny on that, the ore mining is clunky, slow, and boring for no good reason at all.

There is a lot on the UI aspect that can be improved, first of all, we need slots for armor, there can be work done to make it more clean and minimalistic, to add more immersion, and also I'd like to highlight the fact that building, takes stamina, it just doesn't add anything to the gameplay and its kind of pointless, what does it add to the game having to wait for a yellow bar to fill to place a wall again? stamina is great for combat, sprinting, etc., but building, whats the point?

I really want to see better combat:
-Expanded weapon movesets to better differentiate between the weapon types.
-Tougher enemy AI. I'm not talking about padding them even further than they already are, but giving them the capability to counter common player strategies. Doesn't matter how much damage they do if they never hit you.
-More freedom to fashion-up rather than everyone wearing the same one or two sets for the same world stage.

Edit: Copper golems. They really need some engaging way for more advanced characters to gain some side-copper without spending their time staring at a hole in a biome that they have already far outgrown.

I'd take NPCs and NPC factions
