I haven't played since its first launch. exactly how much have they added?

I played from the week it went live to about 6 weeks later. In that time, we made it to the mistlands (empty), the fire place (cool but useless ore), and beat every boss in the game (goblin king? god? I don't remember). So how much have they added to the game at this point? is it time to come back? or should i wait like 2 more big releases?

The core game is the same, but there have been lots of smaller changes. For example, there are some weird new caves in the snow area and new enemies. Food has been overhauled. And I vaguely recall a lot of new things to build with new materials in the plains, along with tar pits and new enemies. And a bunch of mechanics that I've lost track of but are somewhere in the release notes. (And there's supposed to be a a new biome called mistlands but I'm still not there yet with my mistland character)

If you played in the first 6 weeks, it's not a bad time to try it again. And since you played the original game, you're obviously experienced in early access games, so consider using the Public Test version so you get the new biome.

I quit around the same time you did and started making mods for the game instead. I recently started playing a couple days ago and can say theres content there its not an overwhelming amount but id say its enough to be somewhat more interesting than before. that being said im not far enough to be in the mistlands yet so i cant not speak on that.

I wonder how hard it would be to actually search and find the answers in the forum, in the patch notes, in the Valheim discord.

Mostly just QoL updates and new things to do in existing biomes and make of existing materials, although some new have been added to existing biomes..
Plains, mountains, and swamp have seen some love that way.
Remember for example how troll was the last and best light armor available back then, since no light armors existed from biomes after blackforest?
That's one example of geartypes where new stuff got added.
(Something I appreciate since I found the light armor line being rather lacking.)

New biome mistlands is in testing together with a bunch of changes that may or may not reach live.

Edit addition: They've basically been fleshing out the biomes that didn't feel complete.

They delete all the negative posts around the topic of content release so it's understandable why you haven't found an answer to this question. The answer is, here soon (maybe in the next few weeks?) they will release the first real bit of content since you played over a year and a half ago, which I heard is about 8-10 more hours of playable content.

8 to 10 hours?

If you are a speed player and enjoy corpse runs maybe.

I'd wait. In terms of new content, they say one biome is almost released and theres a couple new enemy types, a cave, and some food options. The other changes you won't notice yet.

They have done a bit of bug fixing, though the news announcements area can show you better what they have done in that time.

Two more release's might take a few more year's.
So its up to you

Hey there,

you can find that answer by browsing the patch notes here on Steam, or take a look at the wiki page:

Have a good day!
