Possible Item Request: Ship Gates.
So, I recently finished a port to dock my longship in, complete with a huge arch that opens up into the sea. But I was thinking, instead of having to make a wooden loop around the mast to hold the ship in place, wouldn't it be nice to just have a massive shipsized gate that we could build? one we could open and close to get ships in and out of our harbors? Think like... ARK for example, the "behemoth gate" that you can build for especially large dinos, its HUGE!! In this game, the ships are HUGE too, you need something really tall just to get the mast through. So.... What say y'all? How does a ship gate sound for a buildable feature?

While I am 100% in support of anything that has to do with the ocean biom and ships, for now I can only suggest jumping off the boat directly from driving it. Your boat will lock to that position. I have docks where I do that and have never had a problem. What that does not help with is protection from wandering greydwarves, leeches,.... etc. I have a group of wolves around my dock that take care of that.

Yes! And it damages things when you close it on them. Would love to crush greydwarves that way lol.

Stacking gates on top of eachother is annoying and inconvenient because you have to open each one individually. .........Also I don't see any item called "dvergr gate"?
Having just checked myself I don't find anything called Dvergr Gates either.
I can only assume they are referring to the Hexagonal Door which is a current late/end game structure piece which will not be available until you reach Mistlands.
By then you have more or less completed the game making the need for the gates pretty much obsolete.
What we need is something that can be built in early to mid game, and that is where your suggestion comes in.
its only the end of the game currently. later it wont be anymore.
we will see what new build pieces ashlands brings.
shipgates would be of limited use for now given thier size would still be limited in the end of the day. and the devs are considering adding a bigger better boat anyway already. so adding a gate currently would not work anymore for the new boat then.
till then i just make a seawall overhang with marble which boats can drive trough into an open secure harbor.

Yeah, they are called hexagonal gates in construction menu. The actual dvergr versions are called dvergr doors...
Anyway, here are your harbor gates in test-use:

Have you tried the dvergr gates? They have no frame on them, and having a pair should be enough to allow longship to get through. Haven't yet had the opportunity to test them in practice though.
