The Stamina in this game needs a serious rework
It was fine at the start of the game, but by the time you get into the Plains it's borderline unplayable unless you cheese each individual enemy of the game. It just takes way to unbelievably long for it to regenerate to any proper degree without the use of potions, and I found the game to be impossible without putting all my food resources into stamina alone. Currently I'm geared for the Mistlands so I have pretty high end gear for the plains but I'm having a ton of trouble thanks to the stamina system specifically.

A few things:
Always be rested, toss down a fire and sit for a few to get the 8 minutes rested buff, it adds 100% stamina regen.
Tasty Mead, adds 100% stamina regen but -50% health regen, lasts 10 seconds, almost no cooldown, for when running and dodging is a must.
Eikthyrs power, reduces stamina cost of running, great if you need to recover a grave in a hurry.
Speaking of graves, when you recover your stuff and break a grave you get corpse run. massive buffs for 50 seconds, 75% reduction in stamina cost of running and jumping, very resistant to all melee damage, 10 health/sec, +150 carry weight. combine with eikthyr and you can run forever.

High stamina is really only good for extended sprinting. The regen rate is pretty much the same as when you have lower stamina. The effect is exactly what you're seeing. It takes forever to regenerate to full stamina. That's why I much prefer high health.
Good armor, weapons, and high-health foods, and there's nothing in plains that can hurt you.
Well, if you let a starred berzerker or a 2* fuling beat on you it's going to hurt, but you can still run away from it.
I have no idea what Mistlands is like yet, since I'm still working my way to it from a new start, but I highly recommend higher health foods unless you're just planning on ranged attacks.

I just want stamina foods to increase stamina regen similar to how the higher health foods increase your passive health regen

That makes sense.

There is a Potion for more Stamina Regeneration. I just use 2 "Max Healhfoods" Types and one for good Stamina at the same Time, never had issus.. Also try to upgrade your Home to a high Comfortlevel so you get the Buff for a long time it will help you with your Problem as well

I agree that stamina needs at the very least some form of tweak, as exploring/fighting in the Mountains and Mistlands is really starting to show the issue.
Maybe just letting the jump and different melee weapon skills have a slightly higher % stamina use benefit would do it. Get jump in the 90's and you use about half as much stam as you do currently, same for very high melee weapons skills for combat?
I know its tough to balance without trivializing stmaina as a mechanic, but the current system is incredibly punishing in a hostile vertical environment.

The new potion adds %25 stamina regeneration for 5 minutes, along with a new resource Eitr, which does not cost stamina to use.

I play 2 stamina foods and 1 health and I haven't had any problems unless I'm wet and don't have rested buff. Onion soup, bread, and lox meat pie ftw. Then again I also run around in fenris armor and wield a dark metal round shield and a dagger, so my stamina usage isn't that high. I'm just dreading what decisions I'm gonna have to make to get magic food stuffed in there without gimping health or stamina once I move up to the mistlands.

Yeah, the new stamina regen mead is cool and all, but it's only +25% regen and only for five minutes. That's a minuscule buff, it's barely noticeable, and you'll burn through the mead fairly fast. Tasty mead isn't bad, but it does nothing while you're using your stamina and only lasts 10 seconds. The medium stamina mead is not only the best of the bunch, but also has the easiest ingredients to get at mid-end game.
Still, stamina foods are underwhelming compared to health or eitr foods. Making stamina foods buff stamina regen would fix that.

I suggest you try going all in on the eitr foods and see if that's your kind of playstyle. You'll gimp your health and stamina in the process, but everything in the Mistlands one shots you anyway, and when you're using staves you aren't spending stamina on attacking so having lower stamina doesn't hurt too bad.

how spoiled you guys are... games should be hard not kid friendly. explore? enough stamina food, fight against e.g. goblin camp? make prepared, put portal proximity and make sure to get boost comfort. stop nagging if want more convenient!

i remember struggling with this as well, and the key is knowing exactly what benefits stamina regen and what makes it worse.
just being rested alone should be a +100% stamina regen, so always be rested
cold = -25%
wet = -15%
freezing = -60%
not being rested and having any combination of the above debuffs is a death sentence

You don't even need a portal. A basic sleep shack gives you 10 minutes of rested buff, and you can sleep a 2 pm. Spend the morning fighting, plop down a shack, fire and bed, and you're good to go.

Another option could be having stamina regeneration be % based instead of a flat number. Something like 20% per second would make stamina foods actually good for exploration & offense, with health foods being good for defense & parrying.

Yeah this, certain foods should increase regeneration rate or even decrease the delay of regeneration, as there's a moment where it pauses before going back up, i frequently find this to be the reason i get whiffed. Use full Eitr food, and the staff of protection, and you should be pretty much invincible. The staff adds a 200 health shield at skill 0, and that goes up quickly as the skill increases. 200+ bonus health that is spammable (to an extent) makes you a lot harder to kill. I would even recommend trying one HP food, one stamina food, and one Etir food for a melee build. Bring out the staff, cast, swap to melee and fight with your high armor gear, and re-cast between fights... You'll only have enough Etir to cast between fights, but you'll swap a 80 Health 5 Hp/Tick food For a 28 Health, 3 HP/Tick food and a 200+ HP shield. (Seeker Aspic vs. Honey glazed chicken or a meat platter)
