2h weapons kinda bad?
so just got to iron stuff, and made the 2h battle axe because as a rule in any game ever i like big "f*ck-off" axes so i had to try it.
to say i am disappointed would be an understatement. it cannot deal with enemies. the initial wind up hit is so slow you could hit something twice with a 1h axe and have a shield ready to block/parry in the same time frame. the first hit barely does more damage than a 1h axe, and not hard enough to stagger, generally guaranteeing you get hit by things like draugr (and you literally can't attack archers without eating arrows with how slow it is, nor can you parry the shots either because its block stat is so low.) on the occasional light enemy the 1st hit's pushback can be enough it pushes them out of the range of the 2nd and 3rd hits. one swing also takes almost 3 1h axe swings worth of stamina, almost 3 whole bars of stamina for the combo. oh and 20% movement speed reduction just carrying it.
so to sum:
-insanely slow swing speed
-takes tons of stamina per swing
-doesn't hit anywhere near as hard as what you could do with any 1 hand weapon in the same timeframe for the same stamina (and also doesn't stagger as well either because of the sluggishness and low damage.
-can't parry for crap and lose all the benefit you could otherwise get from using a shield and a 1h weapon
-20% movement speed debuff just to hold it
the idea of a 2h weapon is supposed to be you sacrifice some defense for offence, but in practice this thing sacrifices both defense AND offense for no upside. someone tell me i'm missing something here.

Just wasted my life forging a lv4 Iron Sledge :D
1H mace is by miles better even vs hordes of mob. :D
The problem of the 2h is that vs anything challenging, they don't have the block power of the shield. The only good thing of 2h imo is that you save 1 inventory slot.
P.s..: Lv4 ironsledge don't one shot Leech. :(

I would suggest those change to devs :
increase base damage of 2h.
remove damage reduction for multiple hit (unrealistic non sense.)
Also would made different speed reduction for shield and buckler. (shield should be 10%, actually they're overpowered thing in the game. Buckler 5%)
This would made 2h a more offensive weapon in exchange of lack of decense and speed but not so punishing.
P.s. implementing a dual wield system will add more tactical option to the game.

The problem I'm seeing with the pro AOE argument (for 2h) is that my 1 handed porcupine and Frostner hit many mobs at once as well.

I like 2 handed Axe so much, use it since Iron up until Plain
I still use Axe to fend off those Fuling but tbh, Atgeir is by far the most OP weapon here handed down.
I thinks 2H Axe is in a considered good Position just put x3 Armor when block from Atgeir to 2H Axe instead, reduce push for follow up combo then it's all good to go
Waiting for some 2 Handed Axe like Highlander from For Honor with different stance something like that, could be fun xD

Range? I would assume it's got way longer range than a 1h weapon. That's your benefit.

you would assume wrong. it really doesn't. and because it doesn't hit hard enough to stagger, enemies can literally walk through your hit/ignore you and shoot you in the face Range? I would assume it's got way longer range than a 1h weapon. That's your benefit.

Well that sucks. I've heard other similar complaints about Spears as well. I'm sure things will get balanced out just give it some time.

from what I've experienced the only good move on the 2 handed axe is the middle mouse poke move lmao

After crafting the stagbreaker i choose i'll never craft any 2h weapons anymore.
In solo play they're clearly soo bad vs 1h and shield.
(this is sad i really wanted to use some 2h weapons not just for fun)

I don't use the hammer, but I do use the spear and atgeir.
The spear I would say is fun, you can throw it, it works, but I like the atgeir better because of the knockback. Run into a crowd of Fulings, do the heavy attack, they all get damaged and knocked back. I will usually then run away, let them group up again and do the same thing until they are dead. I would classify the atgeir as a top tier weapon for mobbing.

The balancing in the game isn't done really yet. Its all placeholder stuff.
The 2 handers scale technically a bit better and can deal with crowds better. You have to remember that a lot of stuff in this game scales off your skill with that weapon. And the higher the damage multipliers, the better they do later on.
Also the 2 handed axe has no multi-target penalty. So if you hit multiple targets, they all get the juicy dmg. Where as you will do less damage with the 1 handed axe when hitting multiple things.
I still like to use the 2 handed axe when I get it to deal with hordes of things. It definitely could use some buffing or changes in the swing times/animations, but its not terrible.

Battleaxe is good in raids where you just AOE the wave.
Make sure you have high HP from food as it scales your tenacity up.
In single target fights use the special attack of the weapon to stagger enemy and then LMB1 him while it's staggered.

Yeah, 2h weapons are great only for crowds.
Here are few practical uses for stagbreaker or iron sledge:
Skellies raid - just gather them on one place and smash them (i love to bully them with stagbreaker)
Wolves raid - hop on a stone and smash them.
Sunken crypts - before you enter a new room with a drauger spawner and/or blobs, dont clear the whole muddy scrap pile. Clear enough to come in range and kill all draugrs, blobs and spawner with stagbreaker without giving them a chance to attack you.
