What do I do with broken axes?

I just started the game. I picked up enough wood and rocks to craft a couple axes. When one broke, I crafted another. But I don't see what I can do with the broken one.
I assume it's repairable, but I can only craft the workbench and house pieces so far. I tossed it out, but it constantly glimmers and catches my eye when it sits on the ground.

I figure I should get this out of the way early.

I actually found that one out by accident about an hour ago, lol.
Also, now jump is my highest skill at 43 :P Rested+honey+raspberry+mushroom (still early game) with a ceiling/floor panel just over my head let me jump lots. Didn't even take an hour.

Does the number of days matter? I've gotten to day 3 so far just chopping wood. I gathered enough flint to craft the chopping block and upgraded my axe and hammer to +2, and have filled 12 slots with 50 wood stacks :P
On another note. My wood chopping skill is at 21. I'm not actually sure if that's fast or not.

Progressing fast or slow doesn't really matter, you can take as long as you want. The game will tell you if you're going TOO fast... Usually by killing you. If you keep dying while trying to go somewhere or do something, that's the games way of telling you there's something you need to learn or do differently.

That shouldn't be much of a problem. I'm an overprep type in most games like this.
Terraria is a rare exception due to it being so easy to skip tiers by digging a hellavator early on.

All you need for a basic rested of eight mins is a campfire and sit next to it. Takes about 45seconds to kick in. X to sit.

FYI being wet or cold will slow stamina gain and make you an easier target.
Wait, rested gives faster XP? I never heard that, is this something new?
Yeap , like 40%

You can repair the axes and store them in a chest. Or just throw them in the ocean.

You can repair it at a workbench, on the hammer icon. The workbench has to be sheltered to interact with it

Define sheltered.
The workbench is on the ground, but is surrounded by walls and a ceiling. Enough so that when I'm inside I get the buffs.

Just like that. That's what he means by sheltered; roofed and walled.

Walk up to workbench and "use" it. Key prompt should show when close to it. It will tell you if you need to cover it or not.

On the right side is the build menu. About three quarters of the way up is a hammer icon.
Click on that hammer icon until all your items are fixed. Repair is free.

Turns out that the prompt won't show up if you're equipped with the hammer. Found that little tidbit out by accident, and it would have saved me having to ask this, lol.

On another note. What does 'rested' actually do?

Rested bonus is acquired from being near campfire, and it gives increased regeneration rate for health and stamina, for a small amount of time... Having additional comfort items, in the same vacinity, will extend the duration of the rested bonus (lasts longer) and I believe, with all comfort items, you can get the rested bonus for nearly 30 minutes.

You ALWAYS want to be fully fed and have that rested bonus active, even while working around the house etc.... You never know when Valheim will attempt to hurt / kill you in some way, and you don't want to get caught with 25 (or lower) hp when that happens.
