Questions, questions [pt.1]
These came up when I restarted Valheim with a friend to check new areas and overall update. Not yet touched Mistlands, just what came along:
1. Why there’s no clothing giving warmth? Take two steps away from firepit, and you are cold immediately.
2. Why there’s no clothing (cape, i.e.) protecting from rain (treatment or anything)? When it rains, you’re wet 100% no chance to avoid it. Both these factors decrease stamina regen noticeably.
3. Why stamina overall mechanic sucks so much in this game? It seems sometimes that actions you take do not have flat points cost, but rather a percentage. Regen feels slow.
4. Why there is no inventory or max carry weight upgrade or skill? No backpack receipt? All this does is slow me down with no good reason for it.
5. Why is everything so expensive? Any useful structure needs a pile of resources. Again, this need of stockpiling everything just slows the game down. Why should you have to grind 4-5 crypts for iron to get armor and weapons? Why can’t you suffice with 2?
6. Why every next biome’s folk is so damaging? It’s not that they are somewhat stronger, it’s a literal meat wall killing me in 2-3 blows from full HP. No matter what you’re wearing, entering next biome = prepare to die, a lot.
7. Corpse runs suck. If you failed fully armed and armored, what are your chances when you’re naked? Also, your skills are drained. They could be restored on corpse pickup, but no, f- you, grind again.
8. Why is there no real reward for exploring, say, burial chambers – meaning better tools, weapon or armor?
9. Why the workbench must be covered to use it? Just why?
10. Why is it so hard to find a trader? He is the only source of good stuff, headlamp and the belt.
11. Why stealth is the way it is? It seems that if ANY enemy detects me, ALL enemies in the area also detect me. I can’t really hide from chasing enemies, or stealth kill them one by one. Then why? Just for hunting deers?
12. Who and why added stomp monster in the Swamps, the one that smashes the boat?

- Some later capes provide frost resist, providing protection from cold nights as well.
- Capes cover some of your back. There's still the entire rest of your character exposed to the rain. It wouldn't make sense if a cape negated the rain status.
- Actions take a flat cost, often reduced by the skill level of said action. Learning to manage your stamina costs is a major part of surviving.
- There's the Megingjord to increase carry capacity by 150. I do wish there was more.
- That's opinion, I suppose. If it was any fewer resources, you'd be in and out of a biome within an hour or two.
- It's called progression. And if you're wearing decently-upgraded gear, the next biome's enemies are hardly a threat. For example, properly upgraded silver gear is more than enough to easily survive in the plains, and it only gets easier since you can then acquire better gear from the plains.
- Yep. Try to die less. And keep a backup set so you can survive a mistake or two on the way to your corpse.
- The rewards are the materials within. Surtling cores, valuable gems and coins. You'll need them if you want teleporters, more kilns/smelters/blast furnaces/ovens, and the money for whatever nice items Haldor is selling.
- Because.
- It is?
- Stealth could use a boost, but if one guy hears you, it would make sense he'd make a noise loud enough to alert its friends.
- Stomp monster? Anything can smash your boat. I assume you mean the Abomination? Why not add it? It's a cool creature.

1. Earliest piece that helps is from the mountain biome
2. Nothing I've seen yet sadly, hopefully something will show up in the ocean update, walrus hat?
3. Used to be parkour extreme, the devs took the ARPG combat in another direction a while back though.
4. You can get an accessory to increase weight by finding a certain merchant randomly in the world
5. Not sure myself, it's a game play choice they've made
6. This is not necessarily true, make sure your gear from the previous biome is fully upgraded, currently in full root making my way through the mountains with little trouble at all.
7. You should make spare gear or use some of the older stuff for retreival, it's often wise to make a beachhead on a new island with a portal, they can be fabricated fairly cheaply.
8. There is, gold and treasure to trade to the merchant or decorate with, indeed it's very difficult to make any iron gear at all without exploring the dungeons in the swamp biome.
9. It's a design choice, cheap way is to put it next to a tree and slap 2 roofs over it, usualy counts but can be a little janky
10. It's RNG, just do a ring in a boat on the next set of islands out from spawn then repeat you'll hit something eventually....probably
11. Depends how close the enemy's are, I've dropped wolves before when they are not looking at me or each other.
12. The Abomination came in a patch sometime earlier this year, it's how you make root armor and it's a blast to fight.....just not in a boat, do it on land with a decent shield or from the trees with fire arrows.

being wet aint so bad, its only -15%, which is barely noticeable while also being Rested which adds +100%, it gets a little more dangerous if youre not rested and also cold though, so make being rested at all times your priority, (press X next to campfire, if raining place fire in a dungeon opening or under a slanted swamp tree, resulting in no need for further building)

So it's padding, then?

Some call it padding. Some call it content. So it's padding, then?5. That's opinion, I suppose. If it was any fewer resources, you'd be in and out of a biome within an hour or two.
If a room has 1 enemy, 10 enemies, or 100 enemies, what is it? When is it too little, and when is it too much? When crafting a house, should a single tree be enough wood? 5 trees? 50 trees?
I feel there's no correct answer.

That's on balancing, no? 10 deer hides to up a single bow handle? A bit off, I'd say
EDIT: they had a year

Also, I don't consider coin and amber in Burial Chambers a "reward", but rather, a resource. You need it. Just as the surtling cores. This is the reason you go in.

I've always sort of just had it in head cannon that that's just the quantity of hides you have to go through to get the quality strips you need, seeing as there's no rare dear hide or bonus applied for clubbing rather than killing it with an axe and mangling the hide.
Also why a rug takes 4, some sewing required.

Nah. Kill all these deers to get some specific single stripe off each skin (edit=> and throw away the rest)? Come on.
There could be some, I don't know, skill to reflect your growth as a craftsman.

Be cool if there were crafting skills, I feel like the workbenches and add-ons would need significant re-jiggering for that though. Things would get a lot more complex which seems anathema to any of the devs stated goals I've ever heard.
But we do have fishing so who knows, maybe furriery with the north.
