guessing it`s probably a bug then

After you place a fish on an item stand then remove it you can't pick it back up :( now my base is a fish market

Yeah, I'm experiencing the same thing: fish who beach themselves one way or another are unable to be picked up even though I am being prompted to pick them up.

Valheim golden rule: don’t drop the fish!

Unable to pick Fish up is a bug they know about and next patch to PTB will hopefully fix it.

Yeah, so it says push e to pick up, but when you do that nothing happens. Makes me hope it's a glitch that will be fixed when the update drops officially.

When you pick them up, they no longer turn into fish meat. They stay as fish, so you can mount them as trophies or use them to make special baits.

i've been getting different amounts of fish meat depending on the size, it's listed on the "Quality" of the fish. I do think it's a bit annoying and unnecessary to convert the fishes into raw fish meat at a cauldron and THEN place them on the cooking fire to ACTUALLY cook them.
