Drake spawn mechanic ?
So, to entertain myself a bit i started building a mountainbase in a large region (first one for me btw).
And so far it goes nicely but these annyoing ice blasting winged clowns keep showing up every few minutes, so i thought "Hmm the player build strucktures are supposed to stop enemy spawning... i just take some stone and wood and block the nest`s".
And after about 1,5 hours i found search the whole region and found 9 nest`s.
I marked them on my map burried them in the ground, build a workbench ontop covered by a stone casing and for the cherry ontop i placed a campfire on it.
But they seem to keep spawing, so far i have not seen them spawn but building/mining lure´s them torwards me.
And when i stroll around i will always meet atleast one of them...
Now i wonder why is that so ?
So far i have always seen them spawn from or around the nest`s, am i too far away so they ignor the stuff i build or do they also spawn freely ?
And if so could this be changed ?
The wolves are ok, just build a stonewall around it and done, but these clowns bombard my house whenever they please and wreck it.

I don't think nests are a spawner and if they are, in my experience workbenches don't block things like the dwarf, skelly and draugr spawners. As you found, they are attracted by noise so once you're done building and mining, perhaps they'll be less annoying.

Every mob have a random spawn in their biome , location spawners are not their only way to appear in the world ( phisical spawners =/= locations spawners )
Dragon egg nest are location spawner that u can block how u did , but there is still their global spawn
: a 25% of their spawn every 20metters each 2 minutes in a 64mx64m radio
Here is where i take the info

According to that link, nests are a one off spawn like stone ruins and dungeons with skeletons.
Edit: Meaning trying to block them is kinda pointless.

That's correct. Drakes don't spawn around nests continually, only at worldgen. What OP is dealing with is just caused by the natural random spawn in a mountain biome.
