I never even considered trying to use a Core on an existing Bonfire. Cores are required to build it, why would you waste more throwing them on the fire?

Because if you build a base in or near ashland biome, you'll have them coming out your ears.

Wait what?, you can use cores on them?, gonna try that out right now :)

I wish they have more usage since you get so many.Maybe explosive arrows,or have stands like in burial chambers for decoration and light source.

IIRC, when Surtling Cores are used on the Bonfire, they launch fireworks.

Yeah I notice that part, but is it just purely for visuals?
I'm looking more answers like may temporary increase the range of its or something, but haven't noticed any new so far about it.

Just some neat visuals, which is why it isn't actually explained in the game that you can do this. It's just for fun.
