Animals escaping from the pen

I am trying for the 3rd time to tame some boars, but they keep escaping the pen, and nothing is broken, is this some kind of annoying bug?

serious note, ty ;) I corrected the error.

@Lets go Brandon: TY, i never even thought of that lol just only recently started to tame wolves that way. Only when a pack of 3 of them decided to jump down into my copper mine and scared the ever living heck out of me.

Problem solved

I think GunsForBucks' experience could successfully refute that this always solves the problem and that's supported by Cockpuncher's linked discussion. I've had half a herd of boars poof away from a base surrounded with moat & terrain wall with no solid AI pathing out of it. Plus they were in a livestock-fenced pig pen.

From the various comments I've seen it is certain some folks' pig enclosures need work but others appear to be experiencing something buggy. I suggest that people keep some excess boars around to use as back ups :-)

The boars in great enough numbers will climb onto each others backs to escape their enclosure.

Building a pit is a great idea. Surrounding that pit with a fence is a great idea.

"Animals escaping from the pen"

all i can say in 1000+ hours played is that "it happens" and sometimes it doesn't. I have attempted all manner of remediation, there doesn't seem to be a consistent resolution to the problem.

Sometimes piggies can glitch through a wall when the mother is right up close to a wall when they are born.

I also built a big pastor and opened the side of the barn so they can graze. we also built a ditch around the base so monsters can't get up aganst the wall. Again to prevent them from freaking out.

Sum it all up.

-remove any fire sources
-prevent enemies from getting close as best as possible
-lots of space so they don't stack or birth through the wall

On a funnier note, we have only one entrance in and out of the pastor and my god, when we run in there. Those piggies just dart for that door !!

Thanks, I will try those tips =)

It's a known problem since H&H. Check this discussion:
https://steamcommunity.com/app/892970/discussions/0/3113669366295033307/

In short - even experienced players were surprised, that their boars got away from the enclosure. Probably some entity-loading bug, like boars loading before fences and walls.

I've had one vanish recently.
Had a two star boar, caught and tamed.

The pen was regular walls on the inner pen it was placed in and another round pole fence <points on top> around that with a moat outside of the wall.

Named the boar "Original" so I would know it was the first one.

Brought in another boar tamed and bred.. have a good group of two star only.

Most were roaming around inside the round pole fence but Original was the only one left in the center pen with regular walls.

Came back one day and he was gone. No remains. Not in round pole fence area or space outside of that or in the moat outside of that.

I did just put a roof up and wondered if it had teleported to the roof or something but didn't see it.

Still a mystery where it went, like it just glitched and fell out of the map or something.

LOL that's why I got rid of a door and just hop the fence. Those boars are worse than my dog.

I use flat level ground with basic, full size walls and a door as a pen. Get them to snap together... I have never had a problem.

Those flimsy looking "pen" type segments do not look secure enough to me to hold a frightened, wild boar.

If there is a dirt slope that is one side of the pen it may not be steep or tall enough to keep them in. I've seen boars crowd into a corner and end up stepping on each other so they are stacked. A bonus with the bigger palisade wall is it blocks line of sight with any mobs that may be seen if you're using the light fencing. Boars and mobs looking at each other is to be avoided.
