It's actually quite fun, especially when you get tail wind.
These days though, I find it scary when traversing the ocean during storms. Twice have I been attacked by sea serpents and twice (out of a few other times), the karve went down. Fortunately, whatever was in the hold, floated as cargo. So I could retrieve them.
Anyway, I hope the devs implement more ways to move and make them move faster via player passengers and oars for the long ship.

It gets bored after a while , pretty empty if u have to do a long journey
The devs definitely need to do more things with the ocean and boats. I think it's in one of their future major updates. https://www.pcgamesn.com/valheim/updates-roadmap
Of course, I am aware that IronGate changed how some things have been implemented, but the road map still gives a pretty good idea what's to come.

When they flesh out the ocean biome it would be great to see things likes whales, dolphins, and sharks. I was wondering how they could do a boss in the ocean since once it sunk your boat you're screwed. But they could spawn a small island with the summoning altar on it and you would fight the ocean boss from the island. Put some palm trees on it for atmosphere.

Have you turned off the music yet? It is so much better better without the music in the Ocean, just listening to the waves lap up against the boat.

If I can just avoid running into those pop-up rocks... my "glass keel" boat has disintigrated on multiple occasion completly turning the momentum of a play through. If I could bolt on some hull upgrades, maybe a harpoon for bigger monsters (wink wink) or double sails for more speed... oo then we'd be talkin.

Are you sailing the longboat? I bang into rocks all the time, and don't have a problem unless I let it go for too long without repair. I actually find the longboat quite sturdy.
What I hate is the no-see-um sandbars that you get stuck on, especially when they're just off the coast of the plains, in the middle of the night, when you haven't eaten anything all day...

We did that in the very beginning, stupidly thinking you could sail everywhere in the raft. Then a storm hit, and then a sea serpent reared its head above the waves...

Sailing is the best part of the exploring component of the game. I got the game's value from that alone.

Yeah the first 15 minutes, then once the reality hits you... It's just same boring thing. Some times you get a Sea serpent, sometimes you might spot a Kraken, which is idiotic to be named as Kraken because Kraken is fierce oceandwelling beast which eats ships as snacks. This? This is a mollusc... This is a mollusc with a hard shell.
