Is there gonna be a rework of combat sometime in the future?

Particularly I'm interested in being able to swing in a particular direction, instead of making a standard animation. Especially that's needed with spears and such. High ground in this game usually means death if you use one of those weapons, that thrust forward. And not a massive "high ground", we're talking "a bump on the road" magnitude difference. It's ridiculous. Great norse warriors don't know how to point a weapon a little lower (or just follow through a trajectory down a little further). It's funny when you play your first hours later it's just plain silly. And then it becomes frustrating.
I mean it shouldn't be too hard. Make 3 animations, for when you look forward, up and down and that's it. With how jank the animations are, I don't even care how good those animations would be. :wololo:

I sure hope so. It would be embarrassing for a game to come out of early access with combat mechanics like swinging over the heads of short enemies because you're physiologically incapable of aiming down.

Issues like the elevation problem hold combat back. Enemies have simplistic tactics and no defensive nous. Weapon selection boils down to finding the right damage type for the area.

Dealing with these issues isn't what I'd call a "rework", though. The structural elements of combat are fine. Correcting the deficiencies is going to take "polish".

I agree. Proposed changes and the whole problem doesn't require rework. It's just a habit of making loud titles to gather attention that made me do this particular wording into thread theme. But then again, I could've gotten a concrete answer "yes" and then all the other minor questions would've been pointless. :lunar2019piginablanket:

I mean you could say that our characters were chosen among old warriors, that have arthritis, so they can't bend a little to shoo away that pesky little thing at their feet :popular:
Would've been funny, though not the kind of tone this game goes for.

I like the way things are right now, what comes to combat. Would just hate if I had to swing my view angle all the time but then again I'm slaying those mobs with mace and the 3rd attack is vertical :steamhappy:
Positioning is very important and you can trick the AI with it.

And I certainly hope so

For those that do wish to operate in different way, either use unsupported mods or petition for the option to choose from but don't force your way as the only way.

the hit system is kinda f'ed. else the combat can work.
some just "hit" and others "miss" for little to no reasons for a SP game.
It goes downhill if you might try too many things. had most fun with some skeletons and trolls + minions right now. So long if I have enough stamina + HP, else its just bad.

where doing stealth could help you out. by line of sight be a bit derpy too.

No, think about it. If they improve on the combat and make it a little more indepth, it would then be too hard for the newbies coming in and it will get nerfed to Valhalla and back just like Mistlands.

Thanks for the mods.
Is "it is designed that way" your thoughts on the matter, or do you have devs quote about that? Also what's so tactical about not being able to hit anything below your ankle a feet away from you? If anything the way they made you swing spear from high to low suggests that they tried to make it as encompassing as possible, hiting high and low and not just right before you. :lunar2020thinkingtiger:

I could see there being considerations of that kind, but not for new players. New players don't care if you have a way to swing at your feet or not. In fact I've seen quite a few negative reactions about you NOT being able to do that. Rather veteran players might grumble that it's not something they want. We already see one such example in this thread.
I guess it's true, that if you hit someone with a truncheon from their birth, they would start to adapt and even enjoy it, saying that "thrucheon beating makes you tough" or something and recommending others to try that as well... :conwayshrug:

Combat in this game is all about block-strike ,back off few steps to get stamina back, than do it again.. terrain play a huge roll, you baiting the enemy to the spot from where you can strike.. this combat system go very well with current stamina mechanic...
