PSA Modding is done at your own risk
If you mod your game you have to expect it to break on updates and your saves may be lost.
This is a choice you make when you choose to mod your game.
If your game will not work after an update then..
1. Uninstall game
2. Manually go to the folder it was installed in and delete the whole Valheim folder.
3. Install "clean" version of game.
Hopefully the mod makers will update their mods but they are under no obligation to do so.
Good Luck and happy gaming!

Or use a manager so you're not directly modifying the game directory and can easily switch things off.
On this note does anyone have a list of mods to turn off for now? We've tried to avoid anything that adds new types of items and entities but there's still a couple of minor glitches to track down. Auto-pickup isn't working for some reason, hard to guess which one's doing that.

Nah, that's standard. You put the mods in D:/Mods or whatever and use links instead of real files in the game directory. Nuke the links and the game is unmodded, but you still have the mods saved and configured for the future. Wow... that makes it even harder to make sure they are gone since they are not all in one spot.

Which is why the #1 go-to advice is 'just use a mod manager' because they do all this crap automatically, and all you have to do after an update like this is press the giant 'Launch without mods' button. It just makes the issue more complicated for those trying to help people who don't know what they are doing to begin with.
It is useful to have an understanding of *what* the managers are doing behind the scenes though.

It's growing up with touchscreens and walled garden app stores isn't it. Computer literacy has decreased immensely in generations that have not seen command prompts when first booting up.

Anybody reading this, No need to do the above. Jotunn library just updated only an hour after the update dropped.
Big mods like Epic Loot, Teraheim etc all work just fine.

Ahhh, when 75% of your audience finds the game fun ONLY with Mods the devs have lost. The fact that the BEST Development, in the last year, has been by mod makers just makes me sad. Its ok, they dont want to support mods because it could 'break' their game and it would be too hard. Yeah, maybe learn how much quality content is being created, for free, to keep your player base engaged. Noobie devs make me sick.

The game is literally IN EARLY ACCESS. It is version 0.207.2 - and NOT version 1.0+.
I just don't get why this doesn't get through that extremely dense skull of yours.
IronGate made it clear that mods are NOT supported, but I digress. Many awesome games use mods. So what are you saying? Awesome games that use mods also suck too? o_o
Also, can you cite where you got 75% from? I'll wait.

google for bepswitch.bat if you do not use a mod-manager.
it provides an easy switch for a vanilla or a modded gamestart.

https://steamcommunity.com/app/892970/discussions/0/3185738591086699567/I doubt it. The people complaining typically don't know what they are doing anyway or they wouldn't be having trouble. @GunsForBucks & @Mharr - I only happened upon this knowledge a few moments ago in this thread:

Had I known that mods could be installed outside the game folder... Perhaps it would help with resolving a lot more player complaints. :lunar2019piginablanket:
Creating multiple places to fix just makes the issue worse. You can apparently no longer just nuke the install you have to worry about another install effecting the game.
It just makes the issue more complicated for those trying to help people who don't know what they are doing to begin with.
Well good luck... I don't mod my games unless I make the mod myself. And even that is rare anymore.

To further GunsForBucks' OP here, some players have reported they installed their mods in a different folder than the game installation folder. In this case, you will need to go to where you installed those mods and delete them, or use your mod launcher to uninstall them.

Wow... that makes it even harder to make sure they are gone since they are not all in one spot. Mods should not work that way or they could end up breaking multiple games.. that is kind of insane. To say nothing of cheat engine detection issues for games with anti cheat.
