this game could be epic for pvp.
you could raid each others bases, or work together to create an arena with whatever going on in it.
However I recommend you do not loot each other. You can, but doing that costs the loser hours or even days of work. The PVE idea was that if you die, you have to recover your body by stealth or backup gear or get help or whatever, and nothing is really lost but time and aggravation. But PVP, if you take the other guy's stuff, its gone for good and gathering the materials to get it back is exceedingly brutal at the higher levels.

I also suggest you have house-rules that you agree upon, like whether you break up the other player's home or loot their storage chests or grief them when they are not home or whatnot. Or no epic stupidity like falling forever through a portal pair. Stuff like that is funny, once, but too much of it can ruin your experiences.

I would say that with some ground rules and friendly cooperation, you will have a great time with this.

It would pretty much be fun for one fight. Then the winner would be so dominant that it would not be any fun anymore. The progression in the game is fairly tough once you get to a certain level, not to mention the ease with which you can bring stuff into another server from your own worlds using less than fair methodology. I see it being a nightmare to manage unless like mentioned above there were really strict guidelines and people were willingly following them. YMMV

Friendly duels with a fixed rule set would be cool. Right now, just don't do any PvP as any person with bad intents can ruin your game.

oh yea we're not thinking of doing a full PvP playthrough. basically we just will occassionally fight to decide on some things like who gets X armor piece first. It'll just be when we're bored or really stuck on deciding something.

you didn't really read what i said. it'll just be me and my friend, no one else. and we're not doing a whole PvP playthrough. just occassional duels to see who might get what first. i'm mainly just asking if it's a slog and takes a thousand years to kill someone, or you just one shot other or what.

Wouldn't allowing looting promote strategic base layouts and use of the protection totem thing though? Or are those just not effective enough to justify their use? I haven't done pvp here before.

I have a couple buddies that duel a lot, or do 'naked races' (equip just a knife, see who can kill the first troll) kinda stuff. Make a small building with a flat top and punch/kick until someone gets knocked off, etc.. They also sail around naked until the find a serpent, then battle until someone gets knocked off, the winner sails away, loser gets eaten, haha.

The combat system is alright but lacks depth when it comes to PvP.

when you all duel whilst wearing armor and using your best weapons does fights tend to be super squishy or one shot eachother or what?

no what we mean is we play cooperatively but let's say we only got enough bronze to make one new weapon, we spar to see who gets that weapon. or for fun. everyone seems to misunderstand what i'm saying lol

When I played multiplayer my friends weren’t able to search my grave so either they changed it or I was lied to

Hey, not everyone! haha

You can make the fights last as long or as short as you want, by using best/worst food, gear, etc. Make a fenced in (and then use stone later) arena, because it is too easy to run around and regain stamina, otherwise. It is fun but you'll notice the sometimes odd Valheim stuff when you duel, the timings are sometimes a little off, can get stuff in an attack chain, dodging doesn't always give iframes... but eh, that is in most games and Valheim is still alpha.

I think I understand what you want. Since I've never tried to do PvP with my wife (on the rare occasions she was playing with me) I'm afraid I can't answer your question.

To my best knowledge it all depends on what armor you've donned and what food you ate. If both ate the best food and have the best armor and weapons for their biome they're currently in, I'll wager it'll take a few hits to kill the other player. But not too many.

Basically there is stat loss, so you will want to probably use cheats to max separate PvP characters stats to set levels for dueling. It will really screw your game over losing all your stats on PvE adventuring characters.
