What weapons do you find yourself using the most?
Right now I use a spear and tower shield when overwhelmed with enemy numbers, then switch to axe if spear breaks. also like using the polearm for fighting a few weak or one somewhat difficult enemy. For me the bow is back up for when I don`t think I can beat an elite enemy in melee.
Folks I`ve talked to give me the impression that the way to go is axe and round shield but I`m wondering what the discussions community has to say. Also I`m pretty new to the game so maybe there are combos I have no idea exist.

Knives in the early game are fun.
Butcher knife is stupid though. No point for it to exist and a bad game mechanic.

Your trusty Axe will always be at your side, will likely be the highest level weapon skill you have due to chopping down trees, and in general is just a trusty viking tool to have. My first world I used axes all the way up to Silver when I finally graduated to the Frostner.
Nowadays, I'm rocking the Crystal Battleaxe for general combat, Iron Sledge for foes who are difficult to hit with the axe or are behind corners, and the good ol' Draugr Fang for laser power. (Making Pew Pew noises is absolutely NOT optional when using this bow and Needle arrows.)

I think they were really trying to come up with more uses for tin. To be fair it's a neat mechanic on paper but in practice it is quite tedious having to dig out that knife every time the pens need a culling. Knives in the early game are fun.

I used to think that a butcher knife was a waste too... right up until I butchered lox... with a regular weapon... it got tedious real fast compared to the single clean, quick swipe of a butcher's knife.

I stick with axes until swamp, mace for swamp, w/e for mountain then Frostner until the darkmetal needlemace. Silver sword for Yag.
Honestly wish you could buff Frostner up an additional level so it could be more on par with the needlemace bc the frostdamage slow is so helpful on fulings

I would like to use a spear, but last time I wielded one, I didn't know I could throw one, and it got lost. ^_^'
These days, I use bow most of the time, switching to a hammer/mace and shield for melee. However, I am slowly learning to use different weapons for different tactics. I recently got a hold of wolf cape, so that will help going up the mountain without frost resist potion finally.

Clubs produce blunt damage and more mobs are vulnerable to that more than any other damage type, and I like to parry whenever possible. So it is maces and round/bucklers for me generally. Atgeir secondary weapon attack is good for wolfpacks and furling groups or Frostner/Stagbreaker for knockback and crowd control, if you prefer.

I do love me some Atgeir Fighting, never used blunt weapons thought they`d not do very much but I guess I`ll be trying them out. The spear is a weapon that takes a very specific playstyle to get the most out of. Might I suggest switching to a buckler? The buckler gives a 2.5x damage bonus on counter-attacks, but leaves a shorter window to do it in. With the spear's fast attack speed you can get in there and really chop down their health with a little practice. Obviously better 1 v 1, but it's actually possible to parry multiple hits at the same time. There's no cooldown on parrying, so as long as you click block once for each incoming attack the only limit is your stamina (and block bar).

I found so far that for me I could do the fastest damage with the spear and Atgier, but from what I understand parrying is only doable with the round shields which I have not used yet but will certainly try out along with the blunt weapons. There's actually a difference between the round shields and bucklers. Round shields are really good with swords, axes, and maces because they leave enemies stunned for longer. But they only give a 1.5x damage bonus. It's just the bronze and iron small bucklers that get the special 2.5x bonus. I found so far that for me I could do the fastest damage with the spear and Atgier, but from what I understand parrying is only doable with the round shields which I have not used yet but will certainly try out along with the blunt weapons.

Knife is good for sneaking up on ♥♥♥♥. Axe is a nice well rounded weapon you'll have on you more than not. Frostner is my favorite blunt weapon , next to iron mace. I like this for swamps, and wolves , but i also enjoyed face tanking Yag with it. Starting to level sword skills. Currently black metal sword is my go to. But hands down it would seem one of the most OP weapons in ther entire game is the Draugr fang bow, and bows in general. You can deal massive amounts of damage to both land and air targets in rapid succession. All with little risk to personal safety. Yes, you need to practice, and raise the skill. But it is a formidable weapon to be sure. Iron sledge is AMAZING at dealing with crowds.

And I foolishly left out bows. I always have a bow as highly leveled as I can at all times and use it frequently and initially with upgraded arrows (fire, obsidian, frost and needle, never metal or flint, unless they were gifts from drops/chests). Great for getting that first sneak bonus attack as well as for pulling mobs to me, rather than going to them and getting more mobs aggroed to me. Crowd control can be problematic on occasion.
