Question about Mistlands...
So my firs tbout into the mistlands was interesting. I think the fog gimmick is.. well, it's neat I guess.
But is it all meant to be giant ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hills and minutes scaling near-right angles? Or am I just extremely unlucky with this terrain generation at the moment?

Personally I love the mistlands and its challenges. It forced me to be methodical in advancing through the terrain and obtaining resources. At first I've had to make sure to enter with the best gear I could craft at the time just to have a chance to survive. Creating bunkers for cover in strategic places helped me to push farther into exploring the biome and keeping a fallback position.
I have had more success in the larger biomes that have more walk-able areas, though, so that's where I ended up building a network of bases and bunkers. I use the pick-axe to dig my way through some areas instead of climbing over, therefore ensuring I can retreat easier.
Having put several hours into the biome, I have it pretty well settled with walled-off farms with passages into heavily fortified bases. I was lucky to find 6 roots close to each other, so I completely covered them in a stone building. It makes harvesting sap completely risk-free. Now, creating a magic-using character is much more possible and worthwhile.
Getting to this point took a lot of patience, though.

Huh I really like sailing into mistlands, cool atmosphere and landing has rarely been an issue. The whisplight is def sometimes useless, I agree that they should look at tweaking the radius and maybe lessen the randomness of where it flies around, make it stick more to the player
I think it's cool I've seen some of the huge rock spikes of terrain clear into little landings I could use to travel around, but it's still just all mountainous hills :x

You are probably not unlucky but also not supposed so scale every other rock, unless you want a high vantage point to see further. Near the shore you can get pretty jagged terrain, but if you go deeper its still high rocks but now on flat / hilly terrain.
Ah, I see. THe problem here being that the only route I have rn means it's all shore or one big mountain. I might move the ship, if it gives me easier access to deeper parts of Mistland.
It is because you are on the coast. Try and enter the mistlands from another biom that isnt water and the mountain peaks are less.

Mistlands terrain generation varies alot.
Not sure if it was just code that they refined later on, but the first patch of mistlands I ran into wasn't "mistlands", but "mist islands". It was a whole series of completely unconnected mini-islands, with water so deep I spent 90% of my time using the longship to get around. The islands were tiny. 80% water, 20% islands.
Next patch of the biome I found had sheer mountains that were practically unclimbable. No water between them, but almost no flat ground between the mountains at all.
And the 3rd and biggest patch has huge rolling hills. Tons of huge mountains, but climbable ones. I needed to invest in food with tons of +stamina, but it was manageable. The flat areas between the mountain were mostly interconnected, and there were only small channels of water here and there to cross. And one massive channel of water separating two "continents".
They literally didn't even look like the same biome.

Try and find a black forest or plains that borders mistlands. Those areas for me have not had nearly the same amount of jagged terrain. Entering Mistlands by a boat is a recipe for frustration. Once I see mistlands from the sea, I follow the coast as far as I need tountil I find another biome. Get off, set up camp, and then enter from that biom.

Drove me and a few that I play with to put the game away (we didn't want to want mod it) until the next update. I am sure that we aren't the only ones.
Yep.

I'd like to add, Im probably not meant to climb every rock but that is sorta hard when it makes up 90% of the terrain i've encountered xD

Agree with Blud. Mistlands is.. Hmm I dunno curiously unimpressive. Tried it for a bit but have rather started a new world than carry on banging my head against that.. so yeah work in progress.
Part of the issue was taking as long as they did there was no realistic way ANYTHING could live up the stacked expectations I guess..

Have to admit, my initial game play into Mistlands was driving me to the brink of quiting the franchise. The learning curve from Plains to Mistlands is a bit steep in my opinion. I mean, the mobs hit on a par with a 2 star Fuling, only its every mob, and thats before you bump into 1 or 2 star versions.
The new food mechanics I think need to boost the Health and Stamina a bit more, when combined with the Eitr. Many of the magic stuff takes 40% of your current health with each casting, and thats a lot of health.
The crafting side has been lacklustre, you can only make stuff upto level 2, which is pointless having, its almost like the developers have been taking development advice from companies like Paradox.
And the one thing, the one thing that really annoyed me about it, is the wisp light. You need this thing to be able to see where your going, but by default that only lets you see 6 feet in around you..... SIX FEET. Can't see that drop off the ledge thats going to kill you, Can't see those big hitting mobs coming til they're in your face.
If it wasn't for mods that allow you to change some of the basics, I'd have uninstalled this trainwreck. Sometimes there are DLC or updates that kill a game..... Mistlands is one of them.
The graphics in this new content is great, but great graphics don't maketh a good game, they just make it prettier while also blinding you to the cracks they're wallpapering over.

Its not the difficulty increase for me, that I get.Its just that it has insufficient novelty.
The mist mechanic - OK but not super exciting.
The Boss is in a dungeon? - OK that's new and suspiciously smells like a reaction to the ways ingenious players have cheesed previous Bosses not a new mechanic.
Non Hostile Dverger? - About time - oh wait we have to slaughter them to progress Ho Humm
Dungeons with quest objects - Yes well what Biome hasn't? (Rhetorical - Plains doesn't instead we had a new mechanic of Tar Pits) Mistlands is back to plan A
Tough and different enemies? - Yes well same as every Biome
Yes I know it carries on the established way of progression but somehow just doesn't catch my attention rather amp my personal difficulties and start a fresh than bother after giving it a few dozen hours..
But I tell myself "EA" and enjoy what does catch my interest. The game still has much appeal for me just not in the Mist
