Its possible, there's been some bollocks situations Ive been into. Just recent was fuling camp, swarming with berserkers, shamans and deathsquitos, died an extra 4 or so times but never lost more than the initial skill loss cause:

had a portal moved closer and kept charging in. Die holding something so more gravestone markers spawn and then it makes it easier to get corpse run buff so then it's easier to get the original gravestone

So all you have to do is make sure you have a portal or bed on the island your exploring / sketchy area

If you're stuck in an impossible situation with getting your gear back (Moder + golem + wolf + ice drake seems pretty insane) you can always ask other users for help getting your stuff back. There's some genuinely helpful people around who I'm sure would be more than willing to give you a hand.

Afaik, xxx.fch.old will hold a naked (dead) character, because the game saves once when you die, and a second time when you disconnect. Your trick should work if you alt+tab just after respawning, and go rename that xxx.fch.old file (and while you are at it, also the two .old world save files), prior to disconnect and reload that renamed game.

I always build two small mini-huts near each boss, with portals in each one.

Have a chest with a complete set of armor, weapons, anti-cold capes, gear, food, and ammo, ready to go. Doesn't have to be exact duplicates. Some materials are too rare unless you did an insane amount of grinding. But have at least one maxed out upgraded weapon in the chest.

At the _very_ worst, you can always look at the opposite direction and go explore another part of the world, until you can return. That'll make you another set of equipment.

1) wait a bit and let golem return to its sleep, if it was night the wolf might go away too.
2) drink frost res potion, eat up and go there to recover the body just dodging the moders attacks (dodge roll)
3) when you click on the body you get buff that gives superfast regen, reduces damage and super strength, so just make sure you dont have anything in inventory so you can get it in one click.
4) run away first then re-equip and continue.

In case there are still mobs running around, picking up any body will trigger the corpse run buff at which point you are near invincible, just make sure you have frost resitance and nothing in inventory.

Its only chinise torture if you leeroy jenkins in without any thought or preparation.


ps: if you dont have portal but build a base with bed, and ran out of frost resistance, build campfires instead, and walk instad of running around mobs as much as possible - saving stamina for jumping on rocks or sprints to other locations. You can kill wolves completely naked with campfires too if needed.

You can get out of much harder situations if you plan well.

option to turn off death penalty entirely is gonna get added soon. then just use that.

I really feel you pain, and had a ton of trouble with my first few Moder runs as well. The very first one, I gave up and used console commands to go into ghost mode to retrieve my things, and felt really cheap about it. It's not just Moder, but pretty much any corpse runs on the mountains can be brutal and leave a huge trail of grave markers.

One tip I can give is to use your Golems wisely. They aggro against pretty much anything else on that mountain, so if you can get the other enemies interested in the Rock Guy instead of you, that would be a huge plus. When I'm mining silver, I often bring a Harpoon so I can dig a shallow-ish pit, drag any nearby Golem into it, and have him stand guard for me.

Dude, this isn't an answer to anyone's problem. That feature doesn't exist, and we have no idea when it's going to. Please stop answering every thread with "herp a derp I'm salty about no death penalty options."

food, cold resist mead and a shield. run to gear loot and run away to equip armor and stuff. return when ready.
