How to know if my world is too "explored" to spawn Frost Caves?

Hi there!

Returning player, I was worried to read in another post that if your world is "too explored", it will not spawn the new content (Frost Caves)... This made me really really worried. Cause I spent tons and tons of time in finding perfect location for barley, perfect save location for my home base, which is now kind of big with all kinds of crafting stations etc. And a big trench around so it always seemed kind of impregnable, to enemies....

Now, I would absolutely hate to have tear it all down and start again in a new world... That would take me ages to build up a new similar base.

So my question is: How do I know if this world is much too explored to spawn Frost Caves? Last time we played, we sailed around quite a lot, explored many coastlines, etc. But we never went far inland everywhere, etc. So there "should" be a lot of gray/uncovered places still, on my map... is that enough?

Or can those gray areas also be considered "explored", just because I went to the shoreline?

Pls help, this is worrying as hell. Thanks!

rule of thumb i use.. if i can see its biome edge on map/minimap dont go too much closer if you want it to be populated in upcoming biomes.... this method worked a treat for mountains which placed Moder in my back yard pretty much as they were previously unexplored :-)

If you use the map generator site; it tells you to upload your world file
and some other save file and it will generate the 'updated' map for you.

You can choose to display frost cave locations and anything else or nothing else.
Works great. Not really a cheat because you still have to FIND them on a good sized mountain, but at least you know they are there.

Any Mountains that are revealed on your map won't spawn any ice caves, go find new ones.

I'll try to help. The game usually count as "explored" any area that has been at 500 meters from your position at any point.

Thus, grey areas that you have not gone into: safe. Areas where you have only sailed around the coastline not entering the terrain: if they are big enough, then there should be safe areas where they can appear. Keep in mind that this also depends upon the seed of your world.

In worst case scenario, do remember that the Deep North areas have some Mountain biomes interspersed as well. Depending on the seed, there may be some caves there.

Later, when the Mistland updates happen, the same mechanism will probably be used so do leave some of those coastlines unexplored for later.

Best of lucks, may your axe bath in the blood of your enemies and your drink flow plentiful!

Instead of completely moving your old base, you can treat new worlds as raiding expeditions. You can take your character as is into new worlds and back, inventory carries over, and even new crafting recipes are tied to your character and zsable 'back home'.

For Frost Cave expeditions, I can recommend this seed:
HHcLC5acQt

It has a ton on the starting continent.

I would not be too worried unless you have circumnavigated your map east, west, north & south. It does not take too many Frost Caves explored to make 2 full sets of Fenris Armor. Give Mistland biomes a wide berth when sailing.
