Can I put a few hundred work benches in a swamp, every 30-40 yards apart, and stop all the "normal" spawns there?

I just don't want to deal with that place.

I always kill bonemass after I kill Moder. Finding a vein of Silver is easier than one might think without the wishbone. A poison potion, Frostner, tier 1 iron gear from linen production, with super food like lox pie n serpent stew and mud, makes a very quick, easy fight. Stand and swing.

If you want something a little more permanent you can use a hoe to raise land in front of you above water level as you move. It doesn't stop spawns like workbenches and certain other structures, but you will never be without a clear escape path where you have previously treaded. Leeches will also be pretty much powerless to get within reach of you.

Of course there is no reason why it couldn't be used in combination with spawn-blocking structures if you can handle the tedium.

Thanks everyone.

Yeah I know of ways of entering and surviving the swamps, but like I said, I just don't want to deal with it this time around.

I'm aware of debug/godmode but I don't want to "Cheese It" too much. lol

you’re hindering your future progress, most high tier foods require a load of enemy swamp drops and you wanna be stockpiling them up asap as things like bloodsacks and intestines are used in like a ton of good recipes

removing enemy spawns is gonna make the late game much more painful, just let them spawn for the loot since the swamps aren’t that hard if you are properly equipped

You can however it will be an uphill battle esp if solo.

We did this with a small island that had dark forest and plains biomes quite successfully and made it ourend game base. Only danger is event mobs so some replacement/repair is needed after events.

Existing and nearby spawning mobs will still wander over and attack things while you are building so you need to clear everything in sight as you go.

For me dark forest wasnt too bad, but for the plains I was only able to do this with a friend watching my back. For the swamp you may find that mobs like leeches and even some undead may spawn far out in water where you cannot build without mass terraforming.

Personally my friends and I found it easier to build a small portal shack on top of one of the crypts with enough room for a campfire and some chests. Just make sure its fully enclosed and mobs seem to ignore it, other than occasionally breaking whatever you place to help you jump up (WBench or small box works) We placed extra campfires around to supress mob spawns in the immediate area but these often needed replacing.

We disassembled our boat and stored it in the base until we had a few boxes of iron and rebuilt the boat to run it home.

P.S. Campfires are easier to place and achieve the same effect.

Really not necessary IMO unless you are at the "leather armor level". Maybe. Use sneaking from time to time, have the best food and anti poison potions, health potions and stamina potions. Fire Arrows are highly effective....

You want toi clean out the spawners first and do everything during daytime so you dont run into Daugr Elites.

A bit excessive but one way I avoided most issues in the swamp was using campfires(yes even if burned out) along paths in the terrain that used the hoe to raise the ground on. I also placed covered benches on top of all crypts and I made sure to break all spawners. So while it didn't kill spawns of all things, it minimized them and made travel in the swamp more amiable.

You dont want all mobs to completely stop spawning though as they are a harvestable resource. You just want to be able to manage them better is all.

I think the amount of time you would need to do that is better spend elsewhere. Like for progressing, so that you simply do not have to worry anymore about the swamp. You still need iron late-game, but then even running around in the swamps at night is not really dangerous anymore.

Unless iron becomes available in greater quantities elsewhere, I'd suggest finding out how to deal with the swamp your way.

I did that with a small Plains area, and I have very little issues. Not sure if night spawns are preventable when you are in the area though, and I get some overzealous visitors from surrounding areas.

In the Swamp, I've also had success with treehouses and raised catwalks between the trees, since mobs can't jump (they can walk stairs though, so don't connect to ground). But you have to like building, because that takes a while to be useful. And I learned that crypts are not load bearing, sadly.

Hope you find a solution that works for you!

perhaps could work.. but any mob will attack a workbench .. i just terraform pathways oh and workbenches attached to trees seem to last longer than on ground :-)

You can be comfortable and safe in the trees in the swamp. Use the indestructible trees for support and If you're high enough not even Bonemass can touch you.

EDIT: I think wraiths can get up there, but I don't recall one ever attacking me when I'm roofed in in a treehouse.
