Is riding ever going to get redone?
I finally tamed a lox and I honestly have to say... They are in no way worth it. The main issue is there is no way to attack while riding and it just leaves you as a sitting duck. There is also the fact the skill is unlocked super late into the game. There is a mod that adds horses and they can pull carts (something the lox should be able to do) but they have said attacking while mounted is a problem with the games code. Honestly this feature is so poorly implemented to the point the game would be better off without it in its current stage. Is there any indication the devs plan on addressing it and maybe adding some earlier game mounts?

One of the reasons I do not tame or ride them. After the third time I had to replace the crystal windows it got old. ...the lox can trample things, including enemies.

It might be a stretch, but judging from the Ashlands dev blog post, where they show of the siege engine cart, may be used with a lox. I'm struggling to judge the size of it so it may be the size of a normal cart, and if so, is most definitely to small for a lox. However, whether or not it's intentional, the newest dev blog, "Tests Ahoy" does show the cabin of either a ship, or a wagon. And when you click on the post, the top picture shows a closeup of the cabin, with a lox in the background. Now my guess whether it's intentional or not, is that the lox will be able to pull the wagon, if it is a wagon. OR, you may be able to transport a lox with the new ship. Most likely to Ashlands so that you can use it to assist you in fortress sieges that the developers have mentioned. It would pull said siege engine, and hell, maybe you could equip it with other things too ?
Also, the more i think about it, the more a wagon would make sense. I mean, Ashlands is a pretty big biome, most likely covered with lava, and without water. So a ship, wouldn't really get you anywhere there, a wagon pulled by a lox however, would help you travel and explore the biome as it may be mostly land, potentially acting as a better cart - maybe equipped with a bed, storage and other things ? I'm using the current Ashlands terrain as a reference, and there does appear to be parts of the terrain split into small islands by water streams. Now i would imagine the terrain would be redone, like mistlands, and there instead might be lava streams blocking you off. But i don't know anything for certain.
In regards to the question, this is my assumption of what they might do with lox riding. War elephants were a thing in history and have been used in a few sieges(?), so perhaps loxes might fill this role in Ashlands ? To assist in logistics and sieges ? Otherwise if they're just to be ridden around in plains and any biome surrounding it, then it would be rather disappointing, and a missed opportunity.

If Lox are to be used in Ashlands, then an adaption to make them go through portals is also required, along with the other animals. Or make it easier to get them on boats.

Well, it's just my guess that i got from inspecting the dev blog's images. Whether or not they did intend to have a lox in that image is unclear, and it's just my assumption that i gathered from the information they provided. I could be dead wrong or not, but they do love getting us to tame animals, so they might do something more regarding that mechanic, like boat transport. But so far nothing's set in stone. If Lox are to be used in Ashlands, then an adaption to make them go through portals is also required, along with the other animals. Or make it easier to get them on boats.
Also i'd doubt they'd make a portal for loxes or tamed animals in general. It is pretty easy to acknowledge that they want to stretch out your playtime, so boat transport might be more of their thing. Could be wrong about that too though.

I tamed some Lox and made a saddle to ride them. It can't move through the Black Forest and gets caught on terrain a lot. Also the tamed lox die really easily to the mobs in the Plains. I watched as I rode the lox a deathsequto hit it and drop the lox to half health in one hit.
So I put on Fenris armour once more to scout in for the movement buff it gives. Lox are really good if you have a lot of ore to move from one location to another when on the same landmass, otherwise they are kind of pointless.

Its not ideal, but when you're riding a lox and want to fight you can hit E and just stand on top of the lox and shoot from there.

I think lox riding is a lot of fun, and therefore worth it. That's just my opinion, though.
While you cannot attack from loxback (since horseback is a word, loxback is, too), the lox can trample things, including enemies.
The wiki article on lox[valheim.fandom.com] has more details about the benefits of lox riding.

I believe it is a rather low priority. People wanted to ride lox, so you can ride lox. The only practical use I can think of for riding one is that it is the only way that you can get one to move where you want it. Lox are good at going where you don't want them to go, so that saddle is essential.
Of all the tamable animals, chickens are pretty much the only must haves. The others are just fun side hobbies. Maybe boars if you're playing with a lot of friends.
