Plz unnerf the mistlands enemies

I never had a chance to play with the full powered mistlands enemies, and I have to say that my experience in my first infested mines was rather disappointing. I saw a very brief clip of someone walking into an infested mines, and getting completely swarmed by like 8-ish seekers all dog piling them.

So I was really worried about the first Mine I discovered. I went and farmed up more black metal, so that I could make an atgier so that I could utilize the AOE knockback to help with the swarm of enemies I was expecting. I entered the mine loaded with materials for emergency campfires, healing and stamina meads. But then... I kinda just killed everything without breaking a sweat. The seekers didnt even come close to killing me. I didnt even use any meads. The lowest health I got to was 50%.

I dont think that the enemies need to be as passive as they currently are, its really annoying when all the enemies in the game constantly spend 90% of "combat" running away from the player like its scared. Arent games supposed to get harder as you progress through? Right now, with the current nerfs, the mistlands honestly about as easy as any other biome in the game.

I dont think they need to 100% unnerf the enemies, but if the current enemy power level is a 1, and pre-nerf enemies were a 10, I think we should at least go back to a 6. These are bugs, they should be trying to swarm me, not just circle around me. They dont have any chivalry code, they dont need to fight me 1 on 1. Like jeez, I died more to wolves than these seekers. At least make them deadlier than some silly dogs.

Also side note, were the goblins nerfed at some point too? I dont remember them circling around the player as much as they do now.

I can't stand the dancing mobs, but the cold/freeze mechanic at least needed some tweaking. I had no problem waiting to dry off before entering the mountain biome from, say a raining black forest, but there were times when you would get wet somehow just going through a portal and pop out freezing. That was not fun!

Again, a preparation problem. If you had your portal sheltered with campfire no problem. Except if this was bugged as well, but again shouldn't remove the mechanic completely to "fix" it.

Yea, afair the weather was changing too slow or something when using portals, i think its fixed now so they probably could reintroduce the freeze...

Agreed. The game is going towards of being a dancing simulator. The moment you think you are going to get rekt by brutish bloodthirsty beasts they just start doing pirouettes around you.

I think they said a couple of times that they are aiming to get more players into the game or try to make the game interesting for a different audience. I don't think it's likely that they want to keep the game as advertised at the start or expand it for the people who liked what they've bought.

Not sure how you could think "don't use what the game offers you" would feel good for anyone as the default mode to play. There have been ideas to add difficulty settings to the game, but even with those the difficulty should still go up as the game progresses.

Ofc, that was my first concern, too.

Yeah what I was trying to say earlier is that I hope the difficulty is not akin to taking off armor or not eating food - that is just lazy and frankly does not really make the game any harder - at least not in any meaningful way. I mean if the enemy AI can't score a hit on you in the first place since it just walks circles around you does armor or food matter? I really hope the slider isn't just scaling damage and HP etc... it would be nice to see the aggressive AI back as one of the difficulty options - make the AI smarter and much more aggressive. It would be nice if the battle tactics themselves were harder (they were before the nerf) and not simply a game of trading blows or letting gear alone define barriers to entry. This would promote an avenue for players to get better at the game or at least make combat more interesting.

The goal is accessibility. Telling players that think the game is too easy to take off armor is like telling players who think it too hard to just enable god mode. Neither of these are good solutions. I don't want to see any player alienated - reducing difficulty to a state of boredom eliminates some players just as making it too hard does. I believe the difficulty slider is the answer - I just hope they put some real thought into it.

Having different AI skill difficulties sounds like a lot of work and balance need though. With the mechanics the game already offers (stamina for dodge rolls, block and parry) the game would already change a lot in skill based difficulty with changing stuff like hp, damage and knockback.

If I can make more mistakes in parry timing without dying, the game is meaningfully easier. If I can kill the enemy before my stamina is empty, the game is meaningfully easier. If I don't get staggered from a single hit etc. If their attacks matter less, it's okay if the AI is smart enough to be enjoyable with higher numbers. Smarter AI is something people dreamed of for a long time, but it ultimately a lot of work for little payout. If there was really a hard nerf to the AI from test version to now, that is a different story (and the patch notes say there was a change).

The AI has changed a few times from harder -> easier. They changed Seekers, Fulings, and the aggression from enemies towards bases and structures. The changes were to the way they actually attacked and moved - not just numbers.

Adding better AI is something they already have. They just need to allow us to enable it server side. Bonus points if they added better AI going forward - granted it probably won't be (and shouldn't be) a priority with the other content coming.

Valhaim seems to have an double lead problem, one making the game too hard, the other overreacting too much when people complain.

I did love old mistlands, old squitos, old goblins, old poison, old cold/freeze mechanic ... it was a little over the top... but its really sad that so many patches have passed and they still cant decide on a good baseline.

This is my only complaint about V, its like a seasonal gatcha game. You missed the launch of a new patch? You will never get that cool limited SSR gameplay. "have fun!" And then its all gone anyways...

Good news.. you can download Valheim plus or any other number of mods and increase the difficulty and make the game as ridiculously punishing as you want.. or.. make 10 to 20 more threads like this that will result in nothing.

Totally agree. But this is what happens when ppl grow up playing games like WoW, BattleRoyale, then go and make their own games.

I did play on the original test server with the initial difficulty. I personally thought it was awesome. Cleared everything aspect of it including the queen. A LOT of people; however, voiced opinions that it was far too difficult. Some even declared the game "impossible" (clearly it wasn't).

The dev's then "tweaked" the AI and now the difficulty is fairly simple. It was much the same as they did to Fulings. In fact Fulings and most seekers now feel like the same enemy with a different skin.

Just my opinion. There are still players who think the current version is too hard. What they really need is adjustable difficulty. Adjustable preferably with enemy AI and not just simple HP/Damage scaling. Kind of like chess. You have fun playing against somebody at your skill level... removing pieces at the beginning of the game as a handicap isn't the solution and neither is simple flat number adjustments. They should make better AI a difficulty option to make the tactics more advanced.. not just a matter of now many hits your or enemies can take.

Basically no matter how easy or hard they make the game there will be players saying it is too easy or too hard. They should either stick with their original vision of the game and ignore feedback from players on difficulty or put in options for players to adjust it manually to preference.

A ton of the enemies and mechanics in the game have been nerfed since I first played. Deathsquitos, fulings, the elder, bonemass, to name a few all received significant damage nerfs. Poison used to go through armor and wetness overrode frost resistances due to a bug. Nerfing is pretty much all they have done, so I don’t see how this will change.
