Mistlands mobs too aggressive

My wife and friends have already quit Valheim, much to my dismay. They are tired of the long hours trying to retrieve their bodies and no longer enjoy the game... boo. Make a hard / easier versions so those who are not only into fighting can actually enjoy the content and beauty + building fun!

I will agree that there should be some difficulty options, perhaps the current level as well as a hard and casual level above and below it. But it needs to not be a lazy +or- hp/dmg thing. Should take spawning frequency and numbers into account. I would be excited about more monsters, but not super excited about all soldiers being 3-star equivalents.

And I suspect casuals aren't often dying to one zero star mob. It's more likely getting swarmed by multiples.

difficulty slider may help.
mistlands tames well after you realize that heal, fire resist potions and pierce resist chest piece are very useful things. The difficulty is on par... remember your first troll? And now its a one shot from the crossbow before it even sees you? By the end of mistlands you one-shot the basic seekers with the sword alt attack, or whatever other weapon you like, and while ** stuff hits hard, its supposed to. Gjall are 4 shots with the crossbow. You just have to gear up, suffer a few deaths to learn the ins & outs. Did these guys never die in the plains to tarswarm or fuling village, or in the mountains to a wolfpack or golem??

I agree Mistlands is hard but honestly it should be. It's the highest tiered zone in the game and it needs to be difficult. Every zone is hard until you start making the armor/food/weapons/tools from that zone which in turn make it easier.

Not sure what gear you have but padded armor lvl2/3 is a must, along with a black metal shield lvl3/4. For weapons it's up to you but lvl3/4 Frostner makes it MUCH easier to survive in the Mistlands. Slow the Seeker or Solider down and then run around to its back and hit it, they are VERY easy when you hit them in the back. The Frostner is honestly a game changer for this zone due to the slowing effect.

Don't go in without Healing and Fire pots. Don't go in unless your eating the best possible food available, Lox Pies, Fish Wraps and Blood Pudding are great examples. You should be eating two HP and one Stamina based foods. Don't run everywhere, take your time and LISTEN. Listening is key in this zone, everything has a very specific sound which gives away what it is and where it is before you even see it.

Set up emergency portals the farther you explore so if you do die it's easier to get back to where you are.

Bring Wisp Torches with you and set a path to follow, this helps establish where you are and where you came from. When you are in a panic they can be very helpful.

Use the Dvergrs as fall back points and mark where they are on the map. They HATE the bugs, use them to help you. Getting chased by a Seeker, run to the nearest Dvergrs camp and let them fight it for you. Eventually you'll need to start killing the Dvergrs but don't worry about that earlier on.

sliders are a TERRIBLE idea. may aswell remove all difficulty then. no thanks to forced casulization. not all games need to be made for everyone. common misconception of modern age.

difficulty settings being added POST EA is kind of difficult for a game where skills take a longass time to level.... this would FORCE restart of the character in essence. not a good solution either. this game was clearly designed with ONE difficulty in mind. you can see this in every system in the game. changing that later would be like adding difficulty levels to dork souls nowadays. it... just wouldnt work out well at all.

this is something a dev needs to decide BEFORE releaseing a game to public. especially games which can go on for such a long time. shorter quicker games can change such stuff later on compared.

the better method would be to provide more gear and upgrade options. so players can power themselfs up more or prepare more to overcome a challenge.

HOW DARE YOU take Lord Nerevar's name when you have such plebian opinions.

The great thing about options is you don't have to use em. They're optional. This isn't Dark Souls. The dev's lost the right to claims of artistic purity when they started mugging other games for mechanics and loose change. The game is in early access, so that means we're all a bunch of suckers who paid full price to play test the game. That means if any of us see a problem then we can say something an hope it gets fixed. I don't have high hopes, but you miss every shot you don't take.

And in case you forgot, Morrowind has a difficulty slider.

Just made two corpse runs escorting my buddies who each died at different spots while unprepared and undergeared for the biome. Death happens, but it's recoverable and entirely avoidable with practice and effort.

Yeah, but the option to keep my inventory on death would make it so that I, a solo player, wouldn't have to just look at that jolly roger on the map and accept that my best gear and food is there now and I won't be getting it back in any meaningful amount of time and grind more supplies to get back to the state I was at... AGAIN.

you can always get your tombstone back. sure you might die again trying but youre protected from skill drain after death anyway. its not like the gear disappears when you die again like souls do in dark souls. i died a fair amount myself during my first swamp trip in this game. the map still tells tales of it with all the death icons.

but with a bit of careful planning or makeing sacrifices you can always reach your tombstone.

remember to always make a backup portal when you arrive somewhere new as the very first thing so in case of death you can return there quickly from your mainbase. or make a bed there. thats up to player choice .

but loseing inventory at place of death is not really an issue at all. now all skills loseing % based amounts on death is a bit much currently. i hope they adjust this penalty a bit. or rather fine tune it. i am fine with penaltys for dying but 5 levels at 100 for just 1 on ALL the skills even non combat ones is clearly a bit excessive currently. i blame that one on early access for now. but kinda like fighting on slope height hitbox problems this is something theyll probaly address sooner or later.

Instead of reducing loss, increasing skill gain of certain skills like swimming, especially at lower levels, should do the trick.

Agreed... I died due to purely bad luck after exploring the Mistlands for nearly 2 real life days with no issues. I have since tried 6 times to retrieve my corpse with no success. I've never ragequit Valheim until today. The last straw was when I was roughly halfway to my tombstone with items to make a portal for quick retreat, saw a soldier seeker and planned to pick him off from above with my bow - then decided it would be faster to just take him out with melee. That brought 2 more seekers over, and my stamina / hp plummeted suddenly, got shoved into the water and could not swim away. Died. Again. I'm over it. Lovely biome. Way too hard. And it's not like I'm an unseasoned casual, I've soloed Moder and Yagluth multiple times each. This is just not fun, man.
