Bases Not Safe
Why is it, no matter how large or small, enemies still spawn INSIDE base areas? I don't mean breaking in, I mean legitimately spawning within the walls of the base area. Can you please, PLEASE fix this!! As far as I'm concerned, its the biggest flaw left in the game and It's ruining my own enjoyment as I feel I can never go to far from my base without fear of returning to dead tamed animals and ruined buildings.

Had dwarves and animals spawning in my large enclave. Try some Wards. Just remember to turn them on.

You simply do not have enough no spawn coverage from such as the workbenches. When you attempt to place a bench, look at the white circle that you see. That is the no spawn radius. If you have areas in your base that do not have that coverage, then that's why you're getting spawns.

Bases are not safe until You Make Them Safe. There is really only one failsafe way to do this atm and that is only for non-flying enemies. You figure out a perimeter that seems sufficient. I use the running mode. I count running steps and when it hits 55 to 60 - that is one side, then same in other direction, squarish. Get out your trusty pickaxe and dig down about 3x height of your agile Viking.
(Where you place your base is up to you but for me it's somewhere in the meadows close to water, fairly close to Dark Forest and maybe mountain nearby. Up till this time I just have a shack near spawn.)
Dig yourself a lovely deep trench all around. Then take all that rock you got and stand at the inner edge of the trench and make a wall. Flattening the area is good, at least enough to put down a building or two, can terrace your gardens as needed. None of those silly block walls. They just get damaged by Mr Troll. The devs have made earthen wall building quite easy and very accurate once you figure out how it works. First one or two will be a bit fugly but who cares. Plan your gardens near the walls. Plants don't take damage from troll attacks, but buildings do.
I used to make lovely entryways but don't bother any more, they just get battered, just make some steps up from the inside & out past the trench and hop in and out, usually on 2-3 sides. They get broken occasionally, but not often. Before I do this I put down nothing, no fires or anything else that points to this as being a base. Ergo, no interest from the locals usualllly.
I set a workbench at ea corner then get in the build menu and start running around to see where there is any area without coverage. Carrying around the smallest wood floor piece works really well for this. You can see the radius of ea workbench as you move around. This I do with great diligence. Find the holes, drop a workbench and move on. Not until all this is done do I start building a base. It takes a little time but you have lots of room for a nice base w a couple buildings and plenty of garden space.
If you do it correctly nothing can spawn inside. If something does then it's not the game's fault. And every so often I go around and ck for problems. Especially after you start to get "A cold wind from the North" tho I did have a random blob that popped in unnoticed.
Sorry - wall of text.
Also, all the fun of mods feels problematic to me. How many players have problems with their mods and complain about the game being buggy, sending in bug reports, complaining on forums. After the game is finished then mod the squeak out of it, but EA really is about just playing it as it is currently designed and letting the dev team know what needs to be improved. They have a vision. But they do need to hear from us about how we feel about the game, tho steam forum maybe not the best place for this. With that being said, I portal metals to a second seed, lol not a purist.

My base is pretty damn big, but nothing gets inside. You need better workbench coverage.

I got a ward in the center of my base, and have workbenches on 4 sides, I dont have a single mob in my base... unless I leave my gates open.

I have zero problems as well. If you do not have proper defenses or barriers, they will wander in from outside your bench circle area if triggered by sound or chasing something, etc. Or they will wander in form the ocean around the sides of your base. Skal!

It's not the size of the base that matters, but the area of anti-spawn given by workbenches and other items. Workbenches are just easier because you can see the zone unlike something like a campfire. If mobs are spawning inside a workbench zone then it is a legitimate bug. Otherwise, you missed a spot.

Also note that the bench circles are spheres, not circles...meaning Drakes are more likely to get in overhead or if a bench is placed very high or low, mobs can creep in via height...but this is more rare.

Mobs don't spawn inside bases, if built correctly.

I just kill the annoying graydwarves and get on with my day. I had a mountain keep that would occasionally get drakes, but it wasn't too hard to shoot them down. Never built in the swamps, so I don't know about Draugr outside of the Bonemass raids. Probably the hardest thing was the fulings and deathsquitos, though they'd always come in from the distance and never spawned in the base, not like the graydwarves. You know, those ULTRA RARE (according to the rune stone) monsters that throw rocks and generally are more a nuisance than anything else?
Honestly, I never see this issue. I see them in my yard sometimes, but never actually seen one just pop in or be in my house. I'm a grumpy old man type, so I always come after them with a spear screaming "GET OFF MUH LAWN!!"

Meadow and Black Forest are probably the easiest to deal with since they have no flying enemies which can seemingly ignore anti spawn build pieces.
Mountains you can get drakes which are common spawns therefore annoying, swamps you have wraiths and plains you have the deathsquitos. I literally made a tunnel in a plains biome by digging under a chain of the rocks yet would still rarely get a deathsuito spawning inside said tunnel lol.

you have to leave a few workbenches up depending on the area size, it ceases spawns within such an area.
