Does this game still cause overheating problems?
Last time i played this in march of 2021, the game made my system get so hot that it quite literally broke to the extent of needing new hardware. Needless to say i was not happy and have been pretty wary of playing since. Has this problem been addressed, if anyone can answer my question that would be much appreciated.

I'm guessing you were getting a ton of frames in Valheim and unintentionally pushing your rig harder than you thought. Cap your frame rate to something reasonable (60 - 144 depending on what your rig normally runs stuff at and not 200+ etc) and I bet you won't suffer massive hardware failure.

Erm, no. Valheim is supposed to be a game, not a test to see how powerful your computer is. this is like blaming a stress test for making you reach high temperaturess.
Except valheim does not need a powerful computer. If valheim is causing issues for your temps and faulting hardware; the issue is with the user.
Fans not venting properly: blocked by dust/hair or other obstruction, installed facing the wrong way disrupting airflow.
Thermal paste: low quality paste, not enough paste, very old thermal paste that has degraded
Faulty hardware / marketed as higher specs than what it really is or poor installation of hardware
If running Valheim is the equivalent of running a stress test for your machine, your machine is too far below spec to run it.

I mostly agree. I was claiming the same as you, that Valheim is not supposed to be a stress test. Hence my original post of "get off the Tandy 1000 and out of the 80's."Erm, no. Valheim is supposed to be a game, not a test to see how powerful your computer is.

I should probably add, valheim and only valheim has caused overheating problems for me, i have played plenty of other games both higher and lower on the requirements and non have given trouble.
Examples, FTL, Enter the Gungeon, Conan exiles, Soul Calibur 6, Witcher 2 & 3, essentially a full gambit of game engines and only valheim causes the problem. It's definitely some poor coding on the valheim's part, everything else is completely stable on my machine.
As for hardware fans etc, cooling is decent my GPU reaches 35C under load and rarely even kicks on the fans. CPU is a similar story stable no matter how i use it, expect with valheim.

Turn off VSynch and limit the FPS in the game settings. This solves your problem. Fair enough, sounds like it might still cause some issues for me then, probably safer leaving it alone, i can't afford yet another CPU replacement. Thanks for the answer.

This game is not known for that. There was some faulty video cards around then when New world and Anno 1880 came out and people thought those games were frying their hardware, turned out to be faulty hardware though.

It still takes a ton of CPU, but there have been some improvements (especially in terrain) since it's first month there, yeah. Best bet is to try it out. If it breaks your hardware again, get off the Tandy 1000, out of the 80's and welcome to the world of tomorrow.
It's never really been much of a GPU consumer, just mostly CPU.
