The only way a map would be need to be wiped is if you discovered an area of the map that will be updated, as in the Mistlands will be updated soon. If you have opened up that part of the map then it would not be updated with the new content, but other parts of the map with mistlands would be.

But again you can use same character on any map, new or old and you can bring weapons, etc. with you and move back and forth with no loss of progress.

Hope this helps, SKOL!

No wipe, but there's a chance your world is no longer supported by new versions of the game - basically the same result. [/quote]

So exactly what I originally said.

You can, ther's probably no wipe.
But there's a chance you need do restart anyway in order to use/enjoy new content.
Especially if you've got revealed the entire map already.
New ressources and map-changes (of future updates) only appear on undiscovered land.

Another thing you should keep in mind is technologies. They might probably not work in the way any more like they used to work in the past.
For example: During the first updates you were able baking bread in a kettle. Then they added an oven in the game ind since then you have to use this one in order to get bread now.

But overall, devs did a good job avoiding wipes so far. But sooner or later you have to start over if you want to enjoy everything the game offers.

I believe we were warned a long time ago by someone associated with the game team that at release there may be a requirement to wipe and redo. It was long enough ago that I can't find it though, and its possible it was just some player guessing -- anyone remember that?

regardless, so far its been no wipes at all after 2 fairly large updates and many smaller ones. You can't get new stuff in areas you have seen, like a mountain you explored before the update can't grow a mountain cave, but unseen areas were updated. Pretty cool to do it that way.

If you do have to wipe at release, that is arguably years from now.

I haven't played rust but here, normally, you can play solo, take a break and when you come back everything will still be there. As a matter of fact, you can even create a new world and move there with your same old character and then come back to the old world with that character or a new one even and your structures will still be there.

That said, the game is Early Access so it's not impossible that after a crucial update worlds have to be wiped. I'm not saying it will happen at some point I'm just saying it's something to be expected with EA games.

I doubt they will wipe worlds. Worst would be that new updates don't effect older saves.

Yeah I don't think so either. The game seems pretty stable and looks like what's left is adding content and polishing things. I said "to be expected" in the sense that you need to accept it as a possibility, not that it's probable to happen. I'm ESL so my wording is not the best.

Arguably the majority of people play in single player. Rust tends to favor the multiplayer pvp experience. There are of course servers(no official ones) for valheim but they tend to be run by intentionally gated communities(ie pass words interviewing too etc) because this game allows altering the terrain and a world once made has various resources which are finite.

I suggest for you to watch various youtuber's videos on play throughs to make a judgement on whether the game would be a match for you.

As for bases, the devs have stated that they do their best to not cause loss of player driven creations with updates however if you explore a world fully, any new biome updates wont show up wholly because that is one of the methods the devs attempt to protect player's creations by assumption.

That said(and as other said) this is an early access game and things can change. However if you are playing in single player or via your own made server, any losses overall you could use admin commands, mods or both to rectify such situations.
