Being in the swamp it is only natural to focus on the ground and water for mobs. But if you would only look to the treetops in a full circular sweep on a regular basis before moving from place to place you can clearly see the wraiths and their blue glow before they descend to the ground and then over to you.

You really do have lots of time to see them before they are about to attack.

As a Bronze Age guy I normally futz around the edge of the swamp grabbing some blood bags and entrails. One area I was very familiar with was yielding its regular drops when I saw a weird looking stump. The thought occurred to me that this might be the new swamp 'thing'. I put an arrow into it from a decent distance. And yes, it was an Abomination in every sense of the word.

Gear-wise I wasn't really set up for it and merely confirmed what people had said about lower end arrows not really doing much. Similar to trolls, it didn't really chase me down as I was retreating into a Meadows biome. It rated about a 8.5 on the creep factor with me and it's now hard to look at the swamp without extra apprehension. I look forward to killing one once I'm prepped.

Agreed I killed it on my first go with a fully upgraded Finewood Bow and probably at least 50 Fire Arrows and plenty of time. I was initially really concerned when I saw this massive stumpy Stranger Things look alike emerge from the ground.

Luckily it doesn't seem to like hillsides and certain clumps of trees, definitely kill-able but very tanky. Hopefully this thing will never be implemented to raid bases, except for in its natural biome.
