any improvements to multiplayer lag?

Last time I played this game it would lag horribly for everyone involved if people with different pings got near each other. As in, even the low ping player would experience bad lag. Never encountered anything quite like it in a game before. It made multiplayer pretty pointless because it only worked smoothly if we avoided each other, and at that point why bother.

Is this still a thing, has it got any better?

For some reason in Valheim these players meeting causes issues that neither experiences alone or with other players of a similar ping.

This is actually quite interesting. I had to read it twice to see if I'm reading it right - hopefully. ^_^ I never would consider that ping differences and location differences would trigger something like this. This sort of knowledge could be useful in other applications as well.

Are you hosting the game via dedicated server at home, or just a multiplayer game via from one person who is also playing the game?

my friends and I had some very notiable lag issues like those described but those went away once one of us set up a dedicated system and stopped advertizing it on the clients server lists. We made the switch to direct IP connections when he noticed that there were litterlly hundereds of attempts per second to connect and guess the password. That added a lot of over head to the server. Once we started using the IP all the lag pretty much vanished. The game still stutters a little when the server does a world save.

Ugh, I could be such a goofball sometimes. I didn't consider that multiplayer doesn't always mean dedicated server, but actually one player opening up their own playing computer for others to join in.

personaly i did not experience any multiplayer lag.
I played with 2 friends last year a few times and there was 0 lag and everything worked perfect even though one of my friends have a bad internet connection.
THe player with the bad connection even invited us to his game ( he was the host ) and even then the game run fluent.

I host a dedicated server at home using the following specs for 8 players with no mods. We did an 8 player boss fight not long ago and it was fine.

Mini-PC with a 120mm USB fan attached to the underside for extra cooling.
- CPU: Intel Celeron J4125 2GHZ
- RAM: DDR4 8GB
- GPU: Built-in Intel UHD 600
- Storage: 120GB SSD for OS, and a 120GB SSD for the game.
- Internet: Telus 150MBits/s Fibre Optic Ul/Dl.

The only time it lagged was during the 5 seconds world saving instance. The other time that lagged, was when five players were logged into the server, while I was playing ESO. ^_^ So I promptly logged out of ESO, and a few minutes later, the players reported no further lag.

Still a thing. I've gotten used to it by now, and it isn't that bad for me (even though my friends and I love on the opposite sides of an ocean.

They tried to fix the save lag with a 30 sec warning save coming lol. Still pretty bad.
Co op has been fine for me so long there is not a lot of buildings.

It didn't seem to be affected that much by buildings for me, at least not this kind. But it makes movement sort of like watching an animation with only keyframes. If we sail together the boat will quite seriously get airborne sailing over waves. It's as if the game starts updating what's happening less often or something.

Oh this was my question,

Got a friend group of 6+ players and we tried to build a town with each of us having our own terra-formed housing space. The lag and rubber banding got worse and worse as we developed (we didn't know terraforming and structures made it worse). Eventually the server stopped saving changes in 30min increments so progress was constantly lost. The group gave up and most of us stopped playing the game entirely.

I was really hoping this issue would be solved so we could try again as we all loved the gameplay/concept/theme... Hopefully this stuff can be addressed and the game can become even more popular.
