It's very well playable solo, especially if you stick to the biome progression which is meadows -> black forest -> swamp -> mountains -> plains. If you play recklessly and/or don't plan for failure it might be frustrating though, cause then the game eats up a lot of extra time.

No, not at all. You don't need mods, mods are a subjective thing.

not too tough. everybody finds their own coping mechanisms and mine is portal abuse. I'm never far from a portal and they usually have backups. It's just easier knowing you can bug out of a bad situation easily or always be able to portal close to where you die. just be sure to protect them well in more hostile areas. good luck!

If you upgrade you gear and food relative to the biome you're in and watch where you are going, it's not bad.

Don't park your boat in a swamp, and don't sail too close to the plains. Use poison and frost potions before you think you need them and keep extras of each in your base. Be wary of buzzing noises that are not bees.

As long as you prep it will be fine

I mean, it depends on your definition of difficult

you're going to have to build yourself up, and get a decent base going, and slowly work your way towards the endgame content (which is in development).

if you figured out stamina management, parry and dodge it shoudnt be, but it will take longer and you will feel the difficulty spikes more

Yeah when we went to the swamp we got rekt hard. Barely figured out how to cook and make poison resist and suddenly we started dominating (while being careful)

It's pretty subjective. Why not just try without mods and, if you find it to be not what you're looking for, install some mods? I'm sure some users could recommend a few mods for quality of life. Best of luck to ya!

Just take your time in each biome, enjoy the game. No need to rush. Level up all your gear and it wont be too bad. You will die and there will be frustrating times, its worth it though.

I've been accused, rightfully, of playing MMO's as a single player so.. my opinion is a bit biased; still you did ask.

I think solo play can be easier, you set your own pace, and you know there's no backup nearby so you tend to play a bit more cautiously. I would advise listening to Hugin's advice - some of it is often ignored but is kinda crucial for solo play. That's when he advises you to keep a set of backup gear.. because, especially solo, your avatar may die in a place were getting to the corpse to get the stuff he had may be far more frustrating than it is worth.

I'd also advise you to steer clear of spoilers, youtube vids, streams, and even many parts of the official wiki. It is so much more rewarding, in my opinion, to discover things in Valheim for yourself.

blprice61 nailed it building beds as you go is a good idea as mostly they are save points when you die.. so getting to gear is often quicker once dead. when in adventuring/discovering mindset just keep thinking "if i died here... could i get my gear back easily" only other note on this is dying without a bed (or bed destroyed) means reverting to where you first land in world..

It's a little more tricky in some spots, you need to plan and definitely pick your battles and it's a little more time consuming for resource gathering but playing solo is absolutely doable. I've played through several times on my own and with friends. The good thing about this game is that there's no hard time limits on anything. If you want to stay in the stone age (starter level) for weeks, you absolutely can.

What @blprice61 wrote. I can only second that.

I've been playing solo for most of the time, and I'm getting close to 1,000 hours. Just take your time, don't rush things. Always remember that this is not a pure action title. You will gather resources, craft, build, sow, harvest or just enjoy the scenery and the fruits of your labour.

Or you will sail the fair seas, explore and find new things.

Fighting is just one part of that. And boss fights a very miniscule part.

The journey is the goal.

Not really, no. It’s a game that will punish you brutally if you are reckless, but other than that (and sporadic episodes of freakishly bad luck) i would not call it hard. Certainly not dark souls hard.
