The repair gear mechanic

I was watching a Valheim Let's Play the other day and the guy did not know he could repair his gear. He kept getting into fights over his head and then he'd make new gear instead of repairing the broken pieces. He got so frustrated he stopped playing and "went back to WoW". Literally.

In his defense, the way repair gear is handled seems tacked on. The button is out there in no-man's land, and besides that, you don't even get to choose what gets repaired. They may as well just make the button repair all.

Frankly, I'd like to see them make it so you can choose what gets repaired and make it cost something. Anyone know if this is on the devs' to-do list?

When I grabbed a hammer, or a hammer was involved, a giant "Repair" button showed up, middle screen, like "FINISH HIM!" I couldn't figure out what it did. That's what I looked for. Now I see it in the workbench. EDIT: And I see the spam repair aspect.

I don't know what "Let's Play" is but my question is why didn't you or any one else stop him?

Yeah, the highlighted button in the middle of the screen can be easy missed.

The whole repairing system as it is now does feel a little weird. Go into a workbench and repair all your stuff by spamming the mouse.

When it's so easy, there's not much of a point in my opinion. Could just be like terraria instead where once you craft the item you're good.

I was several days into the game before I noticed the "Repair" button. I just took the "extras" that I built to other locations encase I needed something for a corpse run. I like the idea of the repairs not costing anything and I prefer this. It would be nice if you could repair everything with just one click, but it's not a big deal for me.

A "Let's Play" is a video someone makes on YouTube that shows them playing the game from their perspective. The video I watched was from a month ago. People replied in the comments giving him tips and telling him to repair his gear with the button, but by that time, he already gave up. Sad.

Well, considering you don't own the game... did it work?

That's what I'd do. Reduce the amount of fans. I just started last night and still don't understand repair... and from the looks of it it's ganky at best.

EDIT: I agree with an earlier poster. If it's still an odd mechanic for Devs to iron out, just make the tool built everlasting. For now. I do agree with repairs costing material.

I'll do that. I was still in "new game" mode last night. EDIT: Sometimes that button was there, other times not.

The hammer is clearly visible, if you didn't see it, well maybe time to wear glasses, some people don't even know that their vision is blurry so they miss a lot of things.
Although the women in blonde their vision is forever blurry.

Or he shouldn't have leave his WoW sanctuary in the first place, I always thought players who played WoW only, were simple minded...no offence but I had unpleasant memories of irl friends. Never but never try to convince a WoW player to play something else. :steamhappy:

No upkeep cost to repair please, but making the button do "repair all" would be nice, though I would miss the music from repairing at the forge.

Personally don't like the idea of it costing anything to repair. I always felt that was a great decision on their part. Too many games have annoying wear mechanics.

It probably wouldn't hurt to have the crow tell people specifically about the repair function.
Although people complain about the crow saying too much now, it must be a hard line to tread for the devs between putting in enough and too much.

In my first play, I didn't know we could repair gear until one of my buddies noticed my chest full of broken hammers and she told me where the button was. I simply thought it was "this is a crafting menu, so here's a hammer showing this." I never bothered actually mousing over it to see "Repair an item" as the tooltip.

I wonder how far I would have gone without knowing that if she hadn't told me... Glad to know there's someone as incompetent as I was. :P
