well... i did it.... after all the time i've played this game.. mistlands forced me to do it..

for the first time ever, i've enabled cheats. the flying one to be exact..

its the terrain and visibility its just... so.... poorly designed (it looks cool but that's it) that it actively works against the mechanics of this game. it's a MASSIVE stamina drain, AND you can't see more than 5 feet away from you at any given moment.

i've only had ONE moment where the mist made a genuenly awesome moment. that flying zerg thing pierced through the mist to attack me, but didn't make any noise until it was visible. that was seriously cool.

the rest of my experience has been an exercise of my patience and it finally broke. i can't deal with how many seekers there are. i can't deal with the lack of visibility ontop of that. i wan't to see where i'm going instead of flailing around like a headless chicken because i can't see anything.

so.. now i'm flying. the only way i'm going to be able to enjoy this game is if i scout the biome and mark any noteworthy spots before spamming jump everywhere so i can atleast save some time and try to salvage any enjoyment i can out of this.

/rant

i think the absolute biggest problem is the visibility. the easiest fix is significantly increase the radius that the wisp can reveal.. and have like a 60 second cooldown before the mist comes back in the area it's been revealed. if i could atleast see where i'm going or where i've been, i can put up with the jumping and stamina problems.

that would be a perfect, effortless fix (literally just changing some number values) to this problem, i think.

Why can you see with the wisplight and I can't? Weird.

Nothing wrong with using cheats in single player game to play as you want.

But also there is a bunch of experianced people that spent months making the mistlands as they are, and even more people tested it and considered it good. So if you cant take it anymore consider that maybe you are approching it in unusual/uncommon way.

The game is supposed to be a challenge from Odin, a training grounds even. Every biome is supposed to teach you new things, to streghten you. And not everyting is about combat all the time. You can master mistlads, just like you can master swamps. It just takes a moment to look what the game expects from you, not what you expect from it.

Dogs cant see ♥♥♥♥ but we dont see them having issues, cats can see at night but we dont complain that they are OP, because everyone adapts. The tools you need are already in the game, its a question whether you want to use them or not.

i would love for the people that deemed the current mistlands design "good" to come on here and defend that position.
i don't know what version of the game those people were playing, but it ain't this one.
it's almost baffling how frustrating this biome is to operate in as a player.

jump.
slip.
jump.
wait for stamina.
jump again.
jump.
slip.
wait for stamina.
fall and take damage.
slip again.
wait.
jump

that is mistlands 90% of the time.
(until you get the feather cape which at least prevents the fall damage which is admittedly a nice thing)

You obviously never played well optimized games that offer genuine difficulty. Why on earth would you introduce an insane amount of vertical terrain with vertical combat being non existent?....because Odin doesn't really know what he's doing 💀💀💀. Also, comparing animals to humans is kinda weird and passive aggressive comments are weird to.

If it were easy, Odin wouldn't have asked you for help.
The Mistlands aren't all that difficult. You just have to rethink and adapt your usual playing style.

Agree with op. Looks cool, i like the way the mist subsides when you approach with wisplight on. But annoying af to play. If only there were a bit more open areas and bit less rocky terrain i would be fine with it.

I actually liked mistlands, that was before they nerfed the enemies to the ground though. The mist isn't a bad feature at all for 1/6th of the game biomes (even less in total). Exploring mistlands pre-nerf was the most fun experience I had in this game even with my run level dropping from 70 to 30. I adapted and beat the queen pre-nerf. The upcoming update to mist torches, changing queen to spawn a max seeker count equal to players fighting her, and lowering gjall spawn a bit (though not as low as it is now) are the only 3 things I would've changed. That being said, the frustration about the nerfs caused me to open console for the first time and boost my skills back up.

Ah this thread again. 100% agree, the mist is terrible and the wisplight completely useless.

I went the modding route, at first DeezMistyBalls[valheim.thunderstore.io] to increase the wisplight radius, then I decided ♥♥♥♥ it and switched to MistBeGone[valheim.thunderstore.io] to remove the mist completely.

Wisp torches are supposed to be changing so that mobs don't attack them, but since they were useless anyway that doesn't matter to me.

That's not true even in reality. You can do it if you change your attitude, it's a mere video game after all and you're not truly blind.

Only thing it needs is the wisplight to be able to leave a clean trail behind you for a few minutes, so you could see where you came from and don't get completely lost. But other than that Mistlands is perfectly fine, imo, and i really enjoy how hard it is (It should be like that lore-wise).

No worries. Perhaps your first visit is more enjoyed by using mods and console commands to learn the marvelous challenges of this new biome. You paid for it. Enjoy it as you wish. Later you may feel comfortable enough to give another seed a go with all the challenges in place. Folks IRL compensate for lack of vision by honing their other senses. The Mistlands creatures all have a unique sound. And the developers certainly did not intend the game to be unplayable. Bad for sales.
