Get a dedicated server. You can either rent one[duckduckgo.com] or set it up yourself.

You probably can't play without a dedicated server. Dont set up a non dedicated one, its ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and won't work.

try looking in here Looking for Group or make your own server and post it in there.

its an easy fix really just add options so the server host can set things such as day night cycle times player damage vs structures monster damage monster hp ect ect then people really get to play the way they want

This game is not being developed as a "random-join" multiplayer game.... It's a SOLO or "coop with friends" (people you know or trust) kind of game.

The game is not a PVP game either, and "friendly fire" is toggled off by default... IF players wish to participate in pvp (friendly fire), every person would have to toggle on their friendly fire button individually... The reason I mention this is because it means that allowing "randoms" to join your world could potentially go very bad, very quickly... They could start destroying other players bases, stealing their items and the "victim" would have no way to injure or defend against the offender... and that's just the LEAST harmful thing a bad guy could do...

Theres things much worse such as being able to use console commands and spawning (example) Level 100 mobs to rampage through players bases, and killing such a monster would instantly crash the server due to the overwhelming amount of loot suddenly dropped by a mob like that, and it would KEEP crashing until that world is rolled back to previous save, etc.

Don't hope too much for there to be any "fixing it" by the devs as that's not the type of game they are creating, and likely not going to spend time and money programming "anti-grief" measures.

They did. They added a password system so you can lock the game and only invite in people you trust. Please do not get in the habit of "Well the devs should fix it".

You can't expect the developers to act like peoples parents and constantly run around people's personal, private connections scanning for "Toxic activity".

That's not how physics, game design, personal space, I mean really pick ANYTHING and that's not how that works.

You have to just find someone who you're willing to go out on a limb with to start a world together, and if you want to expand from there you work together to build yourself up a server.

Without a mod it forces you to put a password on your server.

Requiring a password is what the devs did to combat that behavior. You can't change the human condition. You can just do whatever possible to keep it out. This is why you play with people you know and trust.

There are a few public servers that do a great job at taking care of people with bad intentions. The server I'm playing on is called Jotunheim. https://valheimservers.net/listing/jotunheim

If the friend simply made a standard world using the in-game service, then they would have to actually have the game open on their end, for you to be able to join it.

The worlds and characters are separate. You can use any character in anyone's world, and you bring your inventory, skills, and unlocked recipes with you. That's pretty much it.

was just looking at this and its rough if you want drop in gaming. 100% of servers are password protected, the filtering is bad. Discord wants phone verification (which they will never get from me). I can live with mic requirements and some basic protections but not even being able to run a more open server yourself seems a bit over the top.

Servers are password protected because some people suck. If you invite someone to your world, you need to erect wards everywhere to protect your structures, or else another player can just go up and delete them, or take stuff from your chests and then never return.

If you want groups, then I recommend using the LFG section here to find a fresh world to join other people and build together. The system generally works best when playing with friends, as you're less likely to get a troll to ruin everyone's good time.

Yea sorry. Yes of you can have an open server. But is it good to have a open server whit game idea just now? I dont think so. But thats me.

I think the game would have been different in the multiplayer part. Kind of like you can learn different things and have to practice it alone.
Does not say the game is bad. Very nice and well done. But strange gameplay with the multiplayer part. Works well if you only play with friends. But would like to see more public.

Griefing is too easy, so people lock their servers and invite friends only.

i haved a server before. But its not fun to have a dedicated server running 24/7 for only friends. 1-4 Game needs to be change so you can play open servers. Thats sad and makes this game trash for me.

Yer. Try the looking for group sub forum or the various other social medias.

They sure should put in a filter.

There are a lot of communities that have Valheim servers but yeah, find some friends or meet some now ones on some random discord channels and enjoy.
