A Bunch Of Questions?
- WHEN do I start seeing "portals"?
- WHY does literally ALL my stamina vanish on the appearance of a bunch of rabid Graywhatevers, when I haven't been running or swinging an axe or anything else? This REALLY stinks! And no, they haven't sprayed me with anything, stamina just gone at the beginning of the fight.
- WHERE is this mythical IRON everyone yaks about? I have yet to get beyond copper and tin and bronze.
- WHEN do I get to start building with STONE?
- WHEN do I get to build something bigger than a raft?
Honestly, I could care less about the bleeding monsters; I enjoy the exploration and the building (which I'd enjoy a whole lot more if it weren't so bleeding limited in terms of parts, rotation options, sizing options).
Sorry, guys, not ragging, just getting frustrated with butt loads of starts with lousy world seeds, and basically never getting to the meat of anything.

This is actually 100% your fault for restarting all the time blaming "lousy world seeds". When the going gets tough, give up and start again. And now looking for more easy answers. Well, hopefully this time you got what you needed and don't have to give up.

Hey!
I'm in the same boat just now, I'm more into the exploration/building side of the game too, so I'm choking to start building with Stone, as far as I know you can find Iron in the Swamp, in dungeons or chests, but you need to defeat the elder boss in order to get the key to access this? That's to my understanding anyway, so I just keep building little bases along the map til I get to where the elder is located for me, which just so happens to be way out in the middle of nowhere haha.
If there's any other way around this - im interested :) haha
No idea about the stamina issue though :/ x
Just go right next to the elder boss location and build ONE tiny base with a workbench and portal there (or just a bed if no portal). No need to build lots of little bases. Try not to die while getting there.

I will mention it since it seems no one touched on it.
Stamina management is very important in this game.
The amount of stamina you have is related to the food you eat.
Most everything uses stamina. Blocking, running, jumping, just getting hit by something.
Stamina will regenerate faster when you are dry, warm and rested.
Even starting a fire out in the open and sitting next to it <x by default> will give you back your rested bonus.

I mean. If you played the game as it was intended, beating the bosses and exploring, you would have found out how to do everything you asked...Hey!

Heh! Yeah, see what I mean? tons of vidoes, 85 hours of play, and a bunch of questions no one covers. I think the problem is the age-old one of too many assuming everyone is going to play the game the same way and for the same reasons as they do.
The game has a very clear way to be played. Go and fight the bosses to unlock access to new things. It has nothing to do with "assuming". Its literally how the game is played.

Some things are not that obvious though. Like having to make nails in order to get the Karve and cart into the build menu. If you avoided the crypts in the black forest you could not know about portals. There is nothing in the game that forces the player to do those things.I mean. If you played the game as it was intended, beating the bosses and exploring, you would have found out how to do everything you asked...

It is quite possible to have some blind spots if you just missed picking up something. It could happen easily to anyone.

Portals - Bronze age, you need cores and finewood [which requires bronze axe]
Stam - Keep Rested! [yes, that means build fires and top up your rested. Keep fed, Do Not Sprint/Jump all over the place [especially in fights ] and Do Not button click like its a clicker heroes game, slow, measured and steady.
Iron is in swamps - Kill The Elder for the means to access it
Stone cutter needs 2 iron, so Iron age.
Karve need 80 bronze nails, so Bronze age.
Hope this helps

Portals are built by you, you learn how to do it as you get certain items in the game.
Your stamina is gone because you're not being careful with it. Make sure you keep your food up, use the best food you can if you're having trouble with stamina. Very early game you'll want to load up on cooked meat + cooked neck meat + Mushrooms/Blueberries/Yellow Mushroom. And stay rested.
Iron is in the swamp.
You build with stone once you have iron.

- WHEN do I start seeing "portals"?
Have you not chopped down a birch tree yet to obtain fine wood? If so, the portal should be in your build menu.
- WHY does literally ALL my stamina vanish on the appearance of a bunch of rabid Graywhatevers, when I haven't been running or swinging an axe or anything else? This REALLY stinks! And no, they haven't sprayed me with anything, stamina just gone at the beginning of the fight.
Stamina vanishing for no reason isn't a thing that happens; most likely situation is that you're using up all of your stamina very quickly without realising it.
- WHERE is this mythical IRON everyone yaks about? I have yet to get beyond copper and tin and bronze.
In swamp biomes, accessible once you've defeated the second boss.
- WHEN do I get to start building with STONE?
Once you have access to iron.
- WHEN do I get to build something bigger than a raft?
You could do this with the materials available to you right now, as well, if you had picked up any fine wood and crafted any bronze nails.

easy.
1) right after you build it, you will see it :) . You should already have them.
2) stamina is spent on blocking, running, attacking. If it goes away from not doing one of those, something is wrong, do you have mods?
3) iron is in swamp crypts. not all swamps have crypts.
4) stone cutting requires iron.
5) you already have the karve, the medium ship (i prefer it as my go-to ship because it can sail a river)

Aw Yeah I know I get you, I'm over 200 hours in and still building my way over to the elders location lol (I did also seriously underestimate the size of the map as a whole and spent way too much time on one place haha) - but it gives you that time to explore and gather, make decent armour and prep for the boss fights I spose!
... will be nice though eh, gettin' them stone walls <3
