increasing lags inside base the longer I play (increased things insde the base)
Greetings.
I like this game so far and play it modded.
After setting up a base with a house, 3 animal pens and a larger field and a stone wall around it beside the shore I have now an increasing lag that makes it very uncomfortable to be inside my base.
Is there an option to reduce the lags to the normal, no lag, option outside my base or is this just Valheim?

What I've learned is to simply don't touch terrain at all unless I absolutely have to.

I was under the impression they updated the game so modifying the terrain doesn't affect FPS, its more the amount of instances running in the area.
And the other tell me that instances are generated by building and mainly by altering the terrain.
So there the cat bites it tail.

it's both, they did update the game for a bit of optimization , back when the optterrain command was released.. but instances , generated by both modifying terrain and building , and putting ♥♥♥♥ in chests, still have an impact on performance.

No nothing.
I have only a mod running that make cut down tree regrow when I dont attack them they grow up to a new tree.
But I have planted a lot of mushrooms in my base. Maybe thast the problem and i dont know how I can remove them to set this thesis.

I assume that you've been talking about a lower framerate rather than internet latency ("lag" is a useless term anymore).
What GPU and CPU do you use, and at what resolution do you play?

Why is that interesting which GPU and CPU I use?
As far as I see from this forum and reddit this is an all known issue for modded and unmodded gameplay and the only one that can fix this are the devs, which doesnt seem to be on their list at all. So it seems to be not an hardware issue just poor programming, again.
So when even other players say dont touch the terrain in a game where you are in need to touch it (gathering resources, make space or flatten to build and so on) then this is a fatal flaw in the basic of this game and needs to be fixed.

I want to start a new seed anyway. Lets see if this changes anything.
This time I set up 3 Bases (House; Garden and Husbandry; Forge). Maybe this will solve the lag.

As far as i'm aware alterations to existing terrain have the biggest impact on fps. I no longer level the ground out and remove stones. I try to leave natural terrain untouched and build around it. I get around needing a moat or an earth wall, or anything really by not killing any bosses on this server.
If you press "F2" you can see how many instances are in a given area ( how many additional things the game must track). For me on an older machine i'm usually ok at 3-4k instances. When you start getting into 6-10k range I get big drops.
EDIT: well not really an old machine , its a 2020 i7, but its a SFF with a tiny psu and the only video card I could find that would fit the sff and the 130w ps was a 2 gb gt730.

In my base I have 7,5k instances. I have flatten a whole area to build 5 houses on it. (workshop, house, 3 pens)
Yeah, that could be the reason. So when I split this in 3 it should work. For a hugh carrot, barley and flax field it is uninteresting it is inside my base or just somewhere outsourced as long as there is nothign spawning inside and there a a few dogs to protect the land.
I like to print the buildings I already build via PlanBuild so I rund around with the hoe and cultivator and flatten the whole area. Mhm, is there an announcement from the devs that they will do something about performance issues about the amount of instances?
On the new seed I have at my new starting location already 6,2k and no lags at all. So? Explanation please.

Did you plant a lot of trees in a tight cluster near your base? This dropped my FPS from 60 to 3.

The problem might be the stonewalls... a friend and I figured a lot of stone walls can make the game pretty unstable in fps.
Thats why I never use them anymore and use the hoe to alter terrain to act as my wall.
And use them very rarely for building.
I have no stone walls. I just set up the Terrain with the hoe and the terrain tools from the Mod PlanBuild.
I have only two or three stone floors for the heard inside so that I can place it.
The rest is wood based.

I cannot help you due to mods.
mods skew problems, including this one.
Only true way to help you is to have another seed, same buildings, and talk to you from there.
((Here comes the modding community to yell at me and talk to you though))
